Kalonzo Defends Natembeya, Alleges Ruto’s Plot to Rig 2027 Election

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has levied accusations of political intimidation against President William Ruto's administration.
He further alleges the strategic deployment of state agencies to undermine opposition figures in advance of the 2027 presidential election. Speaking at the burial of his uncle, Mzee Mburu Mairu, in Tsekuru, Kitui County, Kalonzo framed these actions as calculated attempts to consolidate power and silence dissent.
Musyoka cited recent scrutiny of Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as evidence of a deliberate campaign to target opposition leaders. He claims that agencies such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were being selectively used, not for genuine corruption investigations, but to weaken political rivals.
“This is nothing more than an attempt to bully and harass leaders who dare to take a stand against the government’s excesses,” he asserted.
Kalonzo dismisses the allegations against Natembeya as politically motivated and alleges plans to arrest Gachagua were part of Ruto's broader strategy to consolidate power. Kalonzo vows that opposition forces would resist any perceived electoral manipulation and undemocratic governance. Announcing his presidential ambitions, Kalonzo has declared himself the strongest challenger to Ruto in the upcoming elections. “It is now clear that William Ruto will face Kalonzo at the ballot,” he stated.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Kitui Governor Julius Malombe, and other lawmakers present at the event echoed Kalonzo's sentiments, voicing support for his presidential bid. Ndeti warned that leaders opposing Musyoka's candidacy risked political isolation in 2027.
