President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on Thursday snubbed National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential Flag bearer Raila Odinga during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Kabiru-ini show grounds in Nyeri County.
The Former Prime Minister, who had attended the 54th celebrations, was seen seated next to National Police Service Commission (NPSC) chairman, Johnston Kavuludi. In their speeches, President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto steered avoided any mentions of the opposition leader, who was present during the event.
In a rare show, President Kenyatta neither acknowledged Raila Odinga’s presence nor shook hands with Odinga after the celebrations.
Odinga had on Wednesday announced at Orange house that he would be attending the event, after snubbing most of the National celebrations since Uhuru took power.
“Madaraka Day is a very important day in our political calendar and we celebrate it whenever and wherever we are. Tomorrow (Thursday) we are going to celebrate it in Nyeri with all Kenyans. We wish everybody else a very happy Madaraka Day,” said Odinga.
Odinga only got a mention from one of the Masters of Ceremonies.
It is not however clear whether the President’s snub was intentional, or was not aware of Odinga’s presence.
In his speech, President Uhuru Kenyatta preached peace and unity among Kenyans.

'HYPOCRITE' You are nothing but a small piece of shit..
As much as I may disapprove some actions of the opposition leaders, it is my view that it was unkind and ungentlemanly for the president not to at least acknowledge Raila. What harm would it have caused to acknowledge or even give him a minute to greet people? The function taking place in Nyeri would have been the best opportunity for the president to prove that he is a statesman. I think he is a good president but the failure to acknowledge the opposition leader when he has taken time to come and celebrate the occasion is a cowardly act. Raila's being in attendance is different from Joho attempting to gatecrash the SGR commissioning yesterday. Joho had openly told the world he was going there to disrespect the president. Raila to the contrary had announced he was going to Nyeri to celebrate Madaraka. I think in this one Uhuru got bad advise and it is a shame!
Acknowledge him for what again? Did he acknowledge former President Kibaki or Moi and other opposition leaders and just for the heck of it left out Raila name? Complainers in chiefs. Always looking for something to whine about . Tano tena 8/8...............
There was no snub. He attended the national event, like many other honorable Kenyans, how can this be called a snub?
Thats hownhe sold millions of votes to nasa..from nyeri
Hehehe I lost respect of this war monge n poverty stricken campaigner the day he refused to attend uhuru presidential inauguration in 2013.Also where was he when the sgr was launched n it's for all Kenyans???.D- leaders like him n joho r used to speak nonsense n a lot of bullshit n Kenyans wr tired of such morons.Let him prepare 5million march to protest for him not given the mick to talk.My grandfather who fought during the Mau may struggle too wanted to talk???Can pple ask why he was not recognised too??Kwa raila ni mwene nyaga!!!
This moron should wait for Uhuruto to form the government after August 8th then like he did in 1982,he can try to overthrow Uhuruto.
He has nothing of any necessary value to add to Kenyans and their daily lives.
He should retire in Bondo and make trips to Nairobi to see his grand babies and retirees of his age and time.
He is a political prostitute and a conman whose ideas have been overtaken by time.
Kilikuwa kinafikiri kitapatiwa nafasi ya kuongea .. then he starts his childish claims ... the sgr was his idea ... obama is his casin ... he is joshua ... bei ya unga ... 10 million strong .. bla bla bla .. ni ta muguruki .. very glad uhuruto snubbed him ...
