Kenneth Matiba Seeks Sh945 Million Compensation from the State

Second liberation hero Kenneth Matiba has moved to court in a bid to have the amount paid to him by the State in compensation for the collapse of his business empire be increased to Sh945 million.

In a fresh application filed by his lawyer John Mburu, the former Presidential aspirants argues that the calculation arrived by the court on the amount to be paid to hims as compensation was erroneous.

Justice Isaac Lenaola, then a High Court Judge, and now Supreme Court judge ruled in avor of Matiba that the State pay him Sh471,664,258, being 20 per cent of the amount he had sought. The judge further ordered the State to pay Sh15 million to Matiba for damages and violations he suffered and a further Sh18 million for medical expenses.

However, the multiparty crusader now says that the 20 per cent of Sh4,726,332,042 should be Sh945,664,258.

“It is necessary to correct the error in the judgment because this might occasion him losses,” said Mburu.

Matiba was was at the lead in the fight for multi-partyism in the 1990s and was the first indigenous African Permanent Secretary at only 31.

His health deteriorated soon after he was detained for championing for a return to multiparty politics.

“The State must now wake up to the reality that past conduct of its officials and agents will no longer go unpunished.”Justice Isaac Lenaola said while rewarding the former Kiharu MP.

The 85-year-old politician was diagnosed with stroke while behind bars and his handlers failed to accord him the much needed medical attention.

Matiba must be paid this amount of money from Toroitich's bank account. In addition, anyone in the current government who remained silent during the struggle for our second liberation must pay Hero Matiba the amount of money that he is asking. But for goodness sake, not from our treasury!

Moi should pay the full amount. Without the likes of kina matiba , we could have stll been under KANUs dictatorship. Kenyans, our memory is unfortunately too short.

Woi Kenyans can hardly afford to eat meat daily or even a packet of Unga. Go after Moi and do not expect Kenyans to finance your grandchildren`s future. You have enough to live on already
