Kenyans Online Demand for the Arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

Kenyans on Twitter on Thursday took to the platform to demand for the the arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko after he was captured on camera calling Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino unprintable words.

In an undated video clip widely shared online, the Nairobi County boss directs his tirades to the beleaguered youthful MP to wild cheers from a crowd.

Babu Owino was arrested on Monday and charged with subversion, incitement to violence and offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace. He was on Wednesday released on a Sh500, 000 bail and two sureties who must be persons of equal standings, but immediately rearrested by police officers.

The former SONU chairman was charged on Thursday at Kibera Law Court for causing grievous harm to a voter on election day.

A second charge stated that the MP used force to prevent the voter from voting on election date.

Kenyans on Twitter, however took issue with Sonko’s latest remarks and failure by the authorities to arrest him.
Here are some of their reactions:

Cyprian, Is Nyakundi said:" Failure to Arrest @MikeSonko for his SHOGA remarks will prove that all animals are not equal in Kenya's political scene # ArrestSonko,".

Nderitu Maina notes: " Two wrongs DON'T make a right. There should NOT be double standard in application of LAW!
#ARRESTSONKO,".

Nobert Nyandire said: "The law shouldn't be applied selectively.
#ArrestSonko,".

Disembe said: To @EACCKenya and @ODPP_KE where does the Governor Sonko "shoga" remarks fit in your justice system? # ArrestSonko,".

MugambiKaimenyi said: "This goon masquerading as honourable must be arrested ASAP
#ArrestSonko,".

Robertziro notes: "Selective rule of law wont find anything wrong with Sonko's abusive remarks # ArrestSonko,".

EtaleAnne comments: "Apart from Shoga, Goon @MikeSonko also used other unprintable words against a fellow leader #ArrestSonko,".

There is a difference between a lad abusing PRESIDENCY vs a Governor throwing a few words of advice to an inattentive lad. Thank you Sonko , the lad will thank you for this in future

Shame on you Mike Sonko. I guess your thuggish behavior could only be hidden for so long. You know you never did explain how you escaped from Shimo la tewa prison. And as a former inmate you are the most qualified in shogga behaviors. Why is it that some politicians minds are always in the gutter .Raila is a human being with a wife and grown kids yet the number one insult against him is that he is a boy ati because he has not been cut. Then here comes this ukambani drug lord calling a Young wannabe shoga. He maybe mayor of Nairobi but not above the law .Arrest this thug ASAP .

The charges of incitement alluded to here are no different - between calling someone a dog (or a puppy) or gay - get over it - that's merely a cultural slur, just that...words.....no need to bring in EVERYTHING else like who they are, how many wives and children, whether they have been to prison or not - we need to focus on the issues not who calls who what.......
