President Kenyatta Sends Home 12 Principal Secretaries

President Kenyatta has reportedly sent home 12 Principal Secretaries who served during his first term in office between 2013 and 2017.

Daily Nation reports that the group constitute PSs who were not re-appointed when the Head of State unveiled his second-term Cabinet in January, 2018.

The decision to terminate their contracts was communicated to the group in a letter sent to each of them by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua. In the letters, Kinyua said the 12 were sacked because the President had filled all the positions he needed in his second-term Cabinet.

A letter served to Tourism PS Ms Fatuma Hersi Mohammed said she's supposed to vacate office on June 30th. “You will be paid salary up to June 30, which will be your last working day,” Mr Kinyua writes.

In the list unveiled in January, President Kenyatta appointed 31 principal secretaries, 15 less than the 46 who served in his first term. The Head of State didn't, however, reveal the fate of the 12, who didn't make it to the new list.

PSs who have been fired include Joe Okudo (Arts &Culture), Sammy Itemere (Broadcasting & Telecommunications), Ali - Noor Ismail (Cooperatives),Mwanamaka Mabruki (Gender Services), Aidah Munano (Housing & Urban Development), Victor Kyalo (ICT & Innovation) and Patrick Nduati Mwangi (Transport).

Others are; Khadija Kassachoom (Labour),Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Mahmud (Mining),Fatuma Hersi (Tourism),Wilson Nyakera Irungu (Planning) and Dr Dinah Jerotich Mwinzi (Vocational & Technical Training).
