Police Search for Former Limuru MP George Nyanja After He Shot at Officers Demolishing Structures in Karen

Police in Nairobi are searching for former Limuru MP George Nyanja following an incident where he shot at officers demolishing some structures in the city.

Nyanja is reported to have fired his gun in an attempt to stop the demolition of some business premises in Nairobi's Karen area.

Bulldozers from City Hall had just began flattening the structures in the leafy suburb of Karen on Wednesday afternoon when Nyanja arrived and confronted the officers before he shot in the air several times.

Nairobi County communication director Elkana Odhiambo said the premises were set up without approval and area residents were also opposed to the development.

“The county government had given the owners of all illegal structures from Embakasi to Karen and when they did comply with the orders, we moved in today,” he said.

Elkana said that some of the workers sustained injuries as they scampered to safety after the gun shots.

“We have recorded a statement at the Karen police station and we invite the DCI and Kenya Police to quickly arrest the individual for misuse of a firearm,” said Mr. Elkana.
