Video of Kenyan Man Caning Anti-Riot Police Officer During Demos Goes Viral Online

A video of a man running after a police officer before caning him has gone viral on social media, eliciting mixed reaction from Kenyans.

The incident reportedly happened on Monday after a demonstration organized by teachers in Kericho turned chaotic as anti-riot police officers tried to disperse them.

In the 27-second video, the teachers are seen trying to negotiate with police officers before things turn ugly. Police officers then disperse the crowd by beating them.

A man wearing a yellow T-shirt and a black pair of trousers emerges from behind and runs after an officer who is chasing the teachers. He canes him on the back before running away.

Si Katiba ya Kenya inaruhusu wananchi kufanya maandamano? Kwa nini polisi (majambazi) hawajafundishwa juu ya kipengele hiki cha katiba? Ni nani aliyewatuma kwenda kuwapiga waandamanaji? Haikosi ni Matiang'i na Bonnetti. Watu hawa wawili yafaa waondelewe kazini mara moja kwa kuhifadhi usalama kwa manufaa ya umma.

Tuliwaona jinsi majambazi hawa (polisi) walivyowaua waandamanaji wakati wa uchaguzi mwaka uliopita. Pia, tuliona jinsi walivyotumiwa kumwuumiza Miguna Miguna baada ya kumwapisha Raila na pia walivyomkamata miguna na kumtesa kabla ya kumhamisha kutoka mahali alipozaliwa.

Kazi mojawapo ya polisi ni kuwalinda waandamanaji na pia kuhifadhi usalama wakati wa maandamano. Bonnetti na Matiang'i: Nawaombeni mstaafu kutoka kazini kwa sababu mmeshindwa na kazi mnayofanya. Je, mmeshalipa fidia kwa watu mliotoa amri wauawe mwaka uliopita wakati wa maandamano siku za uchaguzi au mnafikiri ya kwamba tumeshasahau tayari?
