We'll Not Decriminalize Homosexuality, President Uhuru Says

President Kenyatta says Kenya will not decriminalize same-sex marriages despite pressure from Western donors.

Kenyatta says Kenya must strive to become self-reliant in order to stop being pressured by donors to legalize practices that are against biblical teachings and the values of the country.

"We must ensure that our development is what we want and not that brought from outside. We should not be told that if we want money, we must legislate that a man can marry another," Uhuru says.

He adds: "Is there anything of the sort in the Bible? Wouldn't we rather stay poor?"

"This is why I have insisted, even though people are slightly angry at me, let us pay taxes. This is your money that we can use for our development and this is why I am also insisting that we must protect this money from wastage."

Donors have in the past threatened to withdraw funding if the country does not drop its hard stance on homosexuality.

During his visit to Kenya in 2015, Kenyatta told then US President Barrack Obama that Kenya is not ready to compromise its stand on homosexuality since it's not considered a human right in the Kenyan culture.

“I want to be very clear, I will not engage in any subject that is not of any major importance to the people and the Republic of Kenya. This is not an issue of human rights, this is an issue of society. This is not acceptable, this is not agreeable,” he said, a stand he reiterated during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in April.

The Kenyan Constitution outlaws homosexuality and stipulates a five-year jail term for offenders.

Dunia tayari imeshabadilika.

Mental halisi umwulize Maswali 3:

@Diana,marriage is supposed to be a choice, and not forced on anybody, just like a choice to be celibate should be willingly.
I personally think that marriage should only be entertained when one wants to raise children.Otherwise one can get the rest of benefit without marrying and hassling.

@Guest1:

Other than for reproduction, heteresexuals are no better than homosexuals. They kill, steal, lie ,corrupt, divorce, have affairs, cheat. Now Mr. president, if a homo is law abiding, and does not do any of the afformentioned evils in the society,is he not better than a heteresexual who does all these evil things?
My point being, there are far more destructive acts in the society than being gay.Being gay does not harm me in anyway, but stealing, cheating, corrupting, and killing certainly does.
Again to quote my sience,"in every known human society, there has always existed about 10% of homosexuals, and that includes africa.
Again, in my opinion, its not a choice. With such ahostile world against homosexual who in the right mind would chose to be one?
Mr. President, dont make homosexuality an issue by giving it some airtime, and your attention.Live and let live.Homosexuality is here to stay...at 10%.And heteresexuals are here to stay as well at 90%.I guess lets keep in our lanes, and we shall avoid collision.
By the way, Iam not gay.Just want fair treatment for all homosapiens...
Even if gayism were a choice so what, so long as they are minding their own business -in their bedrooms like heterosexuals do. Again, other than reproduction, heteresexual are pretty"dangerous", just look around you and see who is commiting all these crimes.Granted that they are 90%, yes you expect more crime from them, nontheless they are not setting good examples. My two cents.

Very many prominent people are the loudest in condemning homosexuality but they are closet gay. They are eventually exposed and it becomes a scandal. I will list a few

Rev. Ted Haggard
Congressman Larry Craig
Bishop Eddie Long

Very many others.

If it were not for the libel laws Kenyan newspapers would have a field day exposing gay Kenyan politicians.

So next time you hear a politician condemn homosexuality ask yourself think.

Jamama, best comment hands down! Gay prostitutes have narrated about in the mass media about being frequently raped by cops and engage in sexual relations with politicians, clergy and very prominent Kenyans. An ex diasporan, whose wife manages an exclusively expensive hotel in Naivasha, narrated that very fact to us three years ago. She refused to name anyone for fear of being killed! Obsession as a society with consenting adults' sexual orientation makes me really wonder.

If my gay child scored 2400 On SAT,and was heading to Havard, I would careless if he she was an inetersex, gay,or lesbian.I would know that the child stands abetter chance at helping society,as opposed to being a liability.

Maxiley, you will not win this debate with the ‘self professed homophobes’. Koma kupigia mbuzi guitar. Most will shout the loudest to divert attention from their true colors. Think of summons by these ‘catholic priests’. They are the judges, jurors and executioners condeming to death anyone who’d dare say “shit” in front of them then turn around and ruthlessly molest boys. But we all know the truth.I went to an all-boys boarding nation school in Kenya, some of my fellow alumni who are prominent, now, in Kenya and abroad were engaged in this act. I must admit at one point we extorted cash from them to be silent to which I have regrets. Most of these noise makers are the ones indulging with boy child undercover. Visit the coast area and you will surprised. I have evolved to accept, not agree with, peoples choices for it has nothing to do with my physical, psychological, spiritual or social well-being. My 2 cents.

I have said the Kenyan newspapers will not tell us who in Kenya is the loudest in their anti-gay utterances yet they are closet gays. What is today done in the privacy of bedrooms will be shouted from the rooftops.

my sister 2 girls have declared they are lesbians . My sister and husband are strict christian. It has made the parents life unbearable my sister has grown 3 times older she can no longer face people . she still goes to church maybe to pray for a miracle . I have told her it is not her fault but she thinks she did something wrong in bringing them up. The 2 girls are highly educated . seems like the younger has copied the older . the older was married and divorced after husband cheated on her.Is this the reason she turned gay? Personally no one can convince me that it is nature that it is nature that makes them feel attracted to same sex it is a choice .It is so very hard to deal with it me being an uncle i feel for my sister not ONE but 2 which is rare . Wen it is personal it is tough real tough and this is my truth my fellow men. You have to believe me this is what has happened to my sisters children . they went for their higher studies in USA .what happened ?

Mwangi (not verified)     Tue, 10/23/2018 @ 10:47am

I was wondering why bishop Tutu was supported the law in south africa on gay until i read his daughter was marrying a dutch professor in the Netherlands. It is so very difficulty when it affects you personally and you are forced to make take sides . same was happening to Dick Cheney during his time as vize president there were debates about legalization of gay marriage he did not comment it turned out that his daughter was gay .

I have nothing but empathy for you. If you don’t believe the science out there then think of it as a disability even abnormality. Families will support their own despite their faults, as long as they’re not endangering themselves or others. Not your sisters fault. These things, I believe are biological no amount of religious or environmental intervention can change them.Accept and let them be who they are

mkenya halisi (not verified)     Tue, 10/23/2018 @ 05:03pm

@mwangi i feel you but u said it very clear its a choice??Dont ever support immorality even if your kids r on it.Every adult should carry his or ger own cross? For me i love my kids n its my responsibility as a parent to teach them goid manners until they r able to stand on their own.Wakifikisha 18 years whatever they decide its upto them.U csnnot b shoga n leave in my house,u cannot b bringing alcohol in my house,u cannot b coming 1am 2am in my house.Doing this nonsense means u leave my house n go leave alone.Hii maunjinga yakubeba kusumbuliwa nawatoto nawako adults should not bother a well thinking parents.Mtu akiwa mzima abebe msalaba wake.its that simple.Sorry to say if my kids make a choice of bin gay n they r caught by the society n gets killed its sad but in kenya is 5-10 yrs if ur not lyched by the community.
