Kalonzo's Decision to Declare Himself as President Uhuru's 'Errand Boy' Angers Kamba Leaders

A section of leaders from Ukambani region have taken issue with Wiper chief Kalonzo Musyoka's decision to declare himself as President Kenyatta's 'errand boy.'

Led by Governor Kivutha Kibwana, Senator Mutula Kilonzo and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, the leaders want Musyoka to withdraw the remarks which they claim demean the community.

Kibwana, who is also Wiper party chairman, has described Musyoka's sentiments as a political blunder that could dent his quest for the presidency in 2022.

“Supporters on the ground feel let down by the remarks and that is an indication that he is taking his foot off the gas in the 2022 presidential race. We have refused to be branded errand boys because he is our leader and he ought to exude the confidence of the whole community,” says Kibwana.

“When the leader of the people becomes an errand boy, what becomes of the followers who elevated him to the negotiating table?” adds Kibwana.

Former Machakos Senator Muthama says Kalonzo must explain what he meant by saying he's Kenyatta's right-hand man.

“You should explain to Kenyans and your supporters what you really meant when you said that you have resigned to being President Uhuru Kenyatta’s errand boy so that they can chart the way forward,” says Muthama.

Kalonzo made the remarks last week during the burial of his father Peter Mairu in Kitui County.

“Henceforth, I shall be doing the dirty work for President Uhuru Kenyatta. I prefer not to be asked any questions regarding that decision and if you do you will realise that I am as stubborn as my late father,” said Musyoka during the ceremony attended by Kenyatta.

Kenyatta has since appointed Musyoka as the  head of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) on peace in South Sudan.
