Migori Governor Okoth Obado's Bodyguards Disarmed

Authorities have disarmed bodyguards attached to Migori Governor Okoth as investigations into eight alleged illegal firearms found in his homes last week continue.

Administration Police officers assigned to Obado were during the weekend ordered to hand over their firearms for ballistics examination at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Nairobi, The Star reports.

Obado was last week arrested and presented in court after detectives recovered eight rifles during a raid at his homes in Nairobi and Migori.

The court freed Obado on a bond of Sh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount or Sh200,000 cash bail on Friday.

However, Obado's family claim his political competitors are behind the woes the Governor is facing today.

"Why did an EACC raid meant to gather documents crucial to their corruption case, turn into an illegal firearms case? Does the registration of firearms fall under the jurisdiction of EACC?" the family spokesperson, Samuel Odhiambo, says.

"It is a poorly orchestrated scheme to politically persecute the governor and the people of Migori for reasons best known to the perpetrators. Fortunately, the people can see through it."

Obado is also charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, who was his love before she was abducted and killed.

He is also being investigated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over Sh2 billion siphoned from the Migori County government coffers.

This does not make sense. This is how criminal cases are thrown away. Those guns should have been the first to be taken away for ballistic test. Who knows if those guns "heads" or certain parts have not been changed \altered? How many months

Last time I checked, he had been restricted to a certain area in his county. Is this still the case? After joining Team Kumangamanga I see him all over the place acompaning arap Mashamba.

Our leaders have no shame. Should this guy be still governor? Governor of who? If he was a common man, would he still be roaming the streets of Nairobi and attending high level meetings? Our legal system is a joke!
