Gangsters Shot Me 28 Times in Nairobi - DCI George Kinoti Opens Up on Near-Death Incident

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has narrated how he cheated death after gangsters shot him several times in Nairobi in 2005.
Speaking during an interview with the Star, Kinoti says he was driving to the central business district when he saw two men trying to steal from a female motorist.
Kinoti says he was then the leader of Kanga Squad, a police group deployed to deal with dangerous criminals that had taken over Nairobi.
He says he stopped his car in a bid to rescue the woman from the thugs. As he tried to confront the two, three other gangsters emerged and began firing at him.
He says the criminals shot him 28 times in the stomach before escaping.
"I engaged the five gangsters. I accepted to die but wanted to save the members of the public who had gathered there."
"My intestines were on the tarmac and those who picked me up declared me dead. On arrival at the hospital, the nurses placed a tag on me saying 'dead'," he says.
"I knew the thugs were killing me. I really fought. Fortunately, they did not get the upper part of my body. My stomach was ripped to pieces. Those who rescued me collected my intestines. My leg was in two pieces," he adds.
He says the recovery process was a painful affair and included insertion of a metal plate to reattach his leg. Before this attack, Kinoti explains he also sustained seven bullets wounds in separate incidences.
Kinoti, who was appointed as the DCI earlier this year, says he still receives threats from people who are not happy with the work he's doing.
"Even now, there are active threats to my head. There are quite a number of groupings who are plotting all manner of evil against me. I have seen death with my own eyes. If someone wants to shoot at me, let them go ahead if they so wish but it won't deter me. I have had bullets in my body," he says.

Sir, you are doing a good job and the right thing and nothing should deter you. If we could have officers with the dedication of Matiang'i, Haji and Kinoti in every county; things would streamline.

You have seen the worst that bad boys can do. You have been to the edge of space and time, and miraculously avoided stepping into oblivion. For this reason, you are most suited to removing these bad boys from our society, knowing what their sociopathic and psychopathic nature can do. Soldier on Mr. Kinoti. I am with you all the way.
