Uhuru Scraps National Exams for Primary School Kids under New 2-6-3-3-3 Education System

President Kenyatta says primary school pupils will not be subjected to national examinations under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Kenyatta, who made the announcement during the third National Conference on Curriculum Reforms at KICC in Nairobi on Friday, said this will ensure 100 percent transition to secondary school.
At the same time, President Uhuru announced that junior secondary schools will be domiciled in secondary schools under the 2-6-3-3-3 education system.
Junior secondary school will comprise learners in grades 7, 8 and 9 which are equivalent to classes 7, 8 and Form One in the current 8-4-4 system.
“The task force has recommended that grade 7,8 and 9 should now be domiciled in our secondary schools, this has also been contained in the task force report that there will be no examinations in Grade and we shall ensure that we have 100 percent transition from primary to secondary school,” said Kenyatta.
Kenyatta said changes contained in the new education curriculum are geared towards nurturing creativity and innovation among Kenyan children.
“We are embarking on a process that will have a lot of challenges but one that will rest Kenya’s growth trajectory. We need to use our education system to prepare our children to be the next Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.”
“We need an education that is practical and hands-on, education which nurtures creativity and innovation. One that needs to encourage a problem-solving approach to challenges facing our communities.”
“We are faced with the fast-paced growth of the global economy that includes rapid shifts in technology which require a workforce with relevant skills and it is in this regard that I’m committed to facilitating the reforms in our education system,” said President Kenyatta.

Total confusion. They need to let 8-4-4 go on or roll back the old system 7-4-2-3. Those are the popular education systems in the world. The poor kids will suffer out of this new joke system. The rich will take their kids to schools that teach the British system.

I don't support it at all. How will the teacher's accountability be measured? Creativity? More like rot. We need a system where the children are measured by their achievement. This system was in England where the children were not tested and they produced awful outcomes to an extent that they are now being tested at an earlier stage. Standards have risen since. Uhuru, please consult Matiangi on this, he was doing a better job before he was moved on. Why meddle with a system not broken? Kenyan kids have always led when it comes to academia, so leave it well alone otherwise we end up with more Sonko's in the future than we bargained for.

Mr President, the problem is not the education system. The problem is what is taught to us and the other is our leaders. You want us to be like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. How come since independence (1963), you are not telling us to be Otieno, Kamau or Mutua? or other names of Africans in the continent? The western countries foundation of the people you are telling us to be like is Slavery and Colonialism. They are where they are as a result of their forefathers enslaving the "so called black" man in Africa and in the Diaspora. So who are we going to enslave? Read their real history.
When they hold meetings, like the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885, no African was present; when they hold G-7, we are not included but we want to be them?
When the foreigners come to Africa, they talk about global this and global that, when in their countries, they protect and help their industries, institutions, their languages, culture and their people and resources like a city wall. For us, our government due to corruption, opens doors for all to come and destroy our institutions, and our people. Our government discourages creativity of our people by importing what our people can produce locally. We employ millions of foreigners directly and indirectly and deny our people jobs due to greed, corruption and incompetence.
The 400 years of the "so called black man " enslavement (in the four corners of the earth) is coming to an end.
You are asking us to follow western countries, the age of the sword (gun) and fire which is their blessing is coming to an end and the age of water and spirituality is coming in. Please do no tell us to follow. Our blessings are elsewhere. Let our people cut their own path and the only part the government is suppose to play is protect not interfere.
Ask us to create our own education system. We will. One that does not make slaves out of our people; one that brings honor and respect to our people.

True, the government is rushing through stuff and shoving things down the throats of students and parents and all the other education stakeholders without proper research and being backed up by the law which will always put the politician's interests first. This whole system hasn't been thoroughly thought through and neither are they giving much room for feedback and rectification. The other truth is that Kenyan parents will now have to be more involved in the education of their children rather than making politicians (who almost all have their own children studying based on some US/ UK or other foreign school system) make decisions on their behalf. Yaani the education sector is just a money minting entity for these folks. How dissappointed are school going pupils nowadays, with the calibre of "leadership" they have, how many will even give a f*#k about education yet it's easy to take shortcuts and get yourself whatever position you want in Kenya, without education?

This will set the next generation back 100 years!! You cant make whole generation guinea pigs for a system that is set to fail. Nothing wrong with making 8 4 4 competence-based..just work on the curriculum! Stop rushing a very critical area of development just for legacy!

I cant support the new system because in every stage kids needs to be tested their capability to move to next level.you need to give an exams to pupils/students to know as teacher what you have taught them if its benefiting at all.
