Kiambu Governor Waititu Speaks Out After He Was Impeached

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has spoken out after he was impeached from office on Thursday.

Waititu was ousted after 63 out of 92 Members of the Kiambu County Assembly (MCAs) voted in support of an impeachment motion tabled by Ndenderu Ward Representative Solomon Kinuthia. The motion met the required two-thirds majority threshold after only one MCA voted against it while 28 members were absent.

In the motion, MCA Kinuthia cited gross misconduct and abuse of office as the main grounds for Waititu’s impeachment. He also accused Waititu of flouting the public procurement and disposal act by influencing the award of contracts to companies associated with his immediate family and close relatives.

Governor Waititu also faced another accusation of violating the constitution by forcefully dispossessing and unlawfully occupying a parcel of land in Thika belonging to Cecilia Njoki Mbugua, a widow.

Speaking to a local news outlet via phone after his impeachment, Governor Waititu insisted that the County Assembly did not meet the quorum to impeach him. He also claimed that Deputy Governor James Nyoro, who has been running Kiambu County after he was barred from accessing his office over graft charges, sponsored the ouster motion.

"They did not meet the threshold. It is all fixed and I will not let them have their way. If you saw what was happening, you understand that it is pure lies,” said Waititu.

"It was orchestrated by my deputy James Nyoro and my opponents and I will face them in court.”

Waititu - you need to stop your nonsense - did you meet the quorum when you stole the tax payers money?? Accept the verdict of being impeach and move on to the next step of your life as a regular citizen. You set yourself for a failure when you got involved with corruption!! So much for your degree in business; your actions make you look like a ghetto guy!!

Maina with all due respect, do not compare waitito with watu wa ghetto, we are hard working individuals that support the community we live in. We might not have much and the little we have we can use it wisely and not loot public coffers. Partly our lives in ghetto could be better if what he stole was used in a wise manner to benefit watu wa ghetto

I thought Waititu was stealing to give to the drunks in Kiambu? What happened? Did the drunks become sober enough to impeach their master?

Where the shoe hurts for sure. The GEMA community in Kenya believe it or not, like it or not hold the key to political wellness in the country due to the fact that they are the majority. When corrupt individuals like Waititu and Sonko are impeached then this sets a mighty good precedent for other counties in Kenya. U wish people's eyes and minds had been open before Jubilee and all the messy leaders who came to power. Remember to whom much is given, much is expected GEMA community shikilieni hapo hapo. Come 2022, be even more open minded and wise. Put Kenya on a perfect trajectory to excel and soar high as a country. You owe this to yourselves and the future Kenya.
