Kenyan-American Teen Spoilt for Choice as She is Accepted into 11 Top Universities Including Harvard, Stanford and Columbia

A Kenyan-American teenager has been accepted to several prestigious universities in the US after she finished high school.

Sharon Njeri Wambu, whose parents immigrated to the US from Kenya, received acceptance to 11 top universities including Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Cal Poly Pomona, and Vanderbilt.

Others are University of South California (USC), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of California Irvine (UCI), University of California, San Diego (UCSD), University of South Carolina, Beaufort (UCSB), and the University of California, Riverside (UCR).

In a recent interview with African Warrior Magazine, Sharon, who graduated from Norco High in Norco, California, said she wants to study Computer Science.

“I would like to use software engineering to work on platforms where people can share experiences with each other,” she said.

“I actually didn’t know I would venture into this field until the summer before my senior year. I feel that computer science gives me a tangible way to solve problems around me, and I appreciate the creativity that computer science requires.”

On how she felt after receiving acceptance to all these prestigious universities, Sharon noted: “When I opened my college acceptances, I was incredibly excited and even a bit shocked. So many qualified applicants get rejected and I am grateful that the admissions committees saw something in me.”

She added: “It makes me happy to know that wherever I choose to go, I will have access to amazing resources and people who will push me and help me achieve my goals.”

Sharon mother Sarah told the Magazine that her daughter’s acceptance to the 11 prestigious colleges did not come as a surprise, saying that Sharon put in all the hard work. Sharon is yet to make a decision on which of the universities she will join.

Must you rain on the parade? This young lady has proven herself by being accepted to these highly selective schools. Kudos. I am one proud Kenyan. Keep the flame burning and show them we Kenyans can thrive anywhere.

It is not as hard as many think. Just get together your sob-story and good writing skills. Honestly, very many Kenyans would get into these schools if they knew how, what and had the money to follow the route that gets you there. Most are just happy they are in the US pursuing whatever degree. Start aka-NGO and talk big-big-big and apply.

No sob story here! Sharon was my student last year, and she is the real deal. She works and studies hard and does everything asked of her. She earned the highest score possible on my AP test last year, and I've no doubts that she did so in other subjects as well. I am so happy and so proud of her.

Congratulations to her and her parents! The world is hers to conquer. For the tribal mouth proud; other tribes are doing extremely well; they just don't like mouthing their achievements. It is their culture not to tell how many cows/shambas they own! Uliza mkale how wealthy or how many children he has? Answer: How is that your business! Wenya wanapenda kubroadcast waendelee...

Here in the USA we celebrate success. We do not suppress achievements. We shout at the top of our lungs how high we made it.
So for those that don’t celebrate: stay silent, stay foolish, and stay in Ushambani.
Congratulations Njeri!! You make us proud. Now go for the next goal, and don’t listen to the naysayers.
