Video of Former Kenyan-American NFL Star Daniel Adongo in Apparent Miserable State in the US Goes Viral

A video of US-based former celebrated Kenyan rugby star, Daniel Adongo has left Kenyans online in shock.

Adongo, 30, made history as the first Kenyan and African to play in America’s National Football League (NFL) in 2013.

A video clip shared on social media shows the former Indianapolis Colts player in an unkempt state, smoking what appears like marijuana, and wearing multiple rings over his nose.

Reports indicate Adongo is broke, homeless, and living a miserable life in the US a few years after he left the NFL.

In October 2015, a woman filed a police report saying she was afraid of Adongo and did not want him to return to their house.

Adongo went to Fishers Police Department in Indiana where the lady reported the incident and promised not to stay in the house that evening.

He also swore to end his relationship with the woman, who told police that arguments had occurred between them over the past several months.

The accusations cost Adongo, a former linebacker, playing time at the Colts. The team waived him one week after a second police call on December 10th, 2015.

Prior to joining the Colts, Adongo played professional rugby in South Africa and New Zealand between 2011 and 2013.

Here are some reactions from Kenyans online:

@agundarachel said: “Domestic violence majuu is not taken lightly especially if you’re a foreigner and black for that matter. I think that’s where Daniel Adongo problems started. The guy needs help.”

@okamaster_wrote: “Looking at Daniel Adongo's current predicament and it be like that sometimes. All you ever worked for can go down the drain in a heart beat. Let's pray he gets the help that he so desperately needs.”

@hvmsternotnice said: “After passing by Daniel Adongo’s page, he actually needs help😔Na wasee tuache hard drugs👌🏾.”

@geraldngaopk noted: “I have watched that clip of rugby maestro Daniel Adongo and all I can say is tuwache mihadarati. 😢 💔.”

@KingsleyTaabu noted: “What happened to Daniel Adongo really breaks my heart. I don’t believe he did all that to himself. I believe CTE might be the cause, especially since he was involved in two contact sports. It’s really sad. The man needs help.”

@Kenyans__tweeted: “Daniel Adongo together with a million other Kenyans in our neighborhood need urgent help. We're losing a whole generation into depression and drug addition.”

@living_huru stated: “Daniel Adongo is proof mental health is just as important as physical health. I hope he gets the help he needs.”

Very true @kenya! He is till young and he can restart his life once again if he can stay free from hard toxic drugs! There is no shame is doing what one has to do to live a fairly decent life. Many have fallen and then came back on top through hard work! He can also turn himself into a rehab to get help!

Calm your titties. We just learned this hours ago. He will be helped, you can rest assured. We are on it...geez! Need to confirm location and his mental status...ok.

@Nani hapo juu - what money? Kid is being thrown out of a motel and you think we all are Njeri - Wabenzi. If I had wanted money I would have sought him out when he arrived. Not all of us are from Kiambu or Nyeri. It was his money to do as he wished. He has hit challenging times. And we will give him a hand up. Watch this space.

“ calm your titties” @seneca!? Wow @seneca, what do you have in you chest? Some manly go-nuts!?

I hate that I had to overshadow this guys needs to address your ignorance! You had a good message for anyone to help this man, which is clearly understandable!

But when you started attacking Kiambu and Nyeri women ( which is a common occurrence due to your insecurities as a Luo woman), you start crossing the red line drawn in the sand! I’m did not tell your mother to give birth to you in luoland as a nilete!

How many Luo women are known to kill men (mostly kikuyu men) to steal the old money wealth the man brought into the family?? And you are here talking while you are too damn ugly for any man to want a relationship with you!

We are even offering you the opportunity to have a president Raila because without us, your hiv dying tribe will never meet the “ tyranny of numbers” to hold any meaning political position! Are you kind of people we should even trust with the power of the presidency?

And then, nyinyi watu wa makuu tu! You don’t want to work but you want to eat and dress nice! Your final happiness gets fulfilled when you park a used Mercedes Benz next to a mud thatched hut!! huko village in Kisumu. You carry all the chicken and mattresses to show your village people the wealth you have accumulated since you moved to Kibera, Kawangware, etc!

Please don’t insult us when we are sacrificing so much to help you! We know how to take care of our business and we don’t need your insults because you are terribly inconsequential to the kind of life we build for ourselves and the entire country - and that is what is eating you up bursted!!

You can help this need man but stop attacking those who least care for your nonsense! Keep your damn down rotten mouth shut!!

We don’t have networks to protect us. That is what is killing us. Anyone know where he is? We are trying to see what can be done. He is only 30. He has checked out; and he can still check back in.

Networks to protect you @seneca? You are the first line of defense in managing and steering your own life! Always expecting the networks and the systems to guide your life whenever you make unworthy/unpalatable choices!

@seneca always expecting others to chip in for you! You won’t see a kikuyu woman having your kind of cheap talk! We work hard and give the excess to other! You can give too if you can stop consuming liquor like a mad woman and get a 2nd CNA job to do the 16 hr shift that others are doing without asking for handouts! Who is the system to give to you, my damn foot!! Be proud of your own sweat!!!

SENECA,
I LIVE IN INDIANAPOLIS. IF YOU EVER NEED A PLACE TO LAY YOUR HEAD WHILE LOOKING FOR THIS NOBLE KENYAN SON, REACH OUT. AFTER ALL THE DRAMA, ALL THAT MATTERS IS THAT ONE KENYAN SON WAS SAVED FROM DESTRUCTION.THE REST IS FOR THE BIRDS.

@Mkenya Mhalisi

I can assure you; his challenge has nothing to do with a lack of 'something' at home. He is mentally not there; you only need to see his darting and mydriatic eyes in other videos. The 'somethings' are there, more than enough. Even if he had not invested in anything, the family is comfortable enough to acommodate him. What he needs is to get help/clean/counselling etc. The wheels are spinning. The challenge with mental help is that the patient does not trust what others see. This is what our Dan is going thru. He has not willingly wanted the help or to return home.

Stop the excuses and listen to the valuable advice offered here for free! You need to invest in Kisumu as you invest something in Massachusetts.

Mental conditions develop a out of a terrifying situational result(s)! I hope you can be advised by those who have done it and knows it better! Lakini wewe ni Mujuanji kabiri sana!

Help the guy the best you know how but stop making up excuses for him! It is unproductive indeed!!

After doing my research this dude is for real. Is there a way as African brothers and sisters we can help him get back on truck not by donations but getting him to rehab or something. I hope he has friends and family who care. Do not forget we are all connected in spirit regardless of our country of origin.

NFL star implies playing multiple games, not appearing in only two, not forever on the practice squad or injured reserve. That said we don't know what his life was like before or after his short stint in the NFL. At 30 he has plenty of time to remake himself. Get an MBA in a couple of years and he could be back in six figures quickly. Get help and get well, all is not lost.

I want to reach out to Adongo please cause I can relate coming to this country playing sports at the peak of your career and then you meet coaches that are hungry for fame and money. Teammates that are racist and jealous, and then you're benched and the loneliness at such a young age, I endured the same coming from home playing for the Kenya National Women's basketball team. Thank God I was strong willed and had family around for support but sometimes I felt like I was sinking. I switched college cause I refused to cope with their racism etc and I flourished in the other team where I got drafted for WNBA. Adongo still has soooo much potential he just needs a holding hand to guide him and support him. PLEASE DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW I CAN REACH OUR LITTLE BROTHER?

Philly (not verified)     Sat, 08/15/2020 @ 10:26pm

This thread iko na matusi. It's painful to see Kenyans fighting like this in terms of their tribes. Didn't realize people hate each other's tribes like that.

@Philly - good observation! But I might add that some here start insulting other Kenyans on the basis of the tribe, and because they have old time insecurities, they start to bring in tribes, etc!

I have read a lot of matusi from this woman called @ seneca insulting Kiambu and Nyeri kikuyu women! I’m still trying to figure out why she does that on regular basis!

She also hauls insults to Mwakilishi because it is kikuyu owned businesses but she writes on Mwakilishi more than any body else! You don’t bite a hand @ seneca that assists you to pass your message to others - good or bad!

I would ask @seneca to toned down her hatred narratives of the Kikuyus and at other times the Luhya community! I am not sure why @seneca is so consumed by tribal hate! I would expect those lucky enough to live in America to set a good social example for us who live here at home.

We look up to you guys and when we see you fighting each other on the basis of the tribes you come from, we start wondering what is really happening there! We have even hard of Kenyans killing other Kenyans in the diaspora! Wow, what is the issue with jealousy and hate?

So, my request to @Seneca and others is to stop the tribal hate, jealousy, etc, and embrace your fellow sisters and brothers there regardless of tribe.

You are all Kenyans living in America and other places in the world. You should welcome and enjoy the diversity among you and live in peace. AMA!!??

Oya! Were you deported? Why are you reading a diaspora newsletter.

First, yoll need to stop worrying about Dan Adongo, he is in safe hands. Thank you for the concern but return to your lives. Robert Alai posted videos from months ago. He is getting help.

Now shemale who calls theirsef @Misstop, Vivian, Wisecounsel, : stop imagining things. Not every one from Nyeri and Kiambu is Kikuyu by the way; unless of course your ethnic mindset believes so. All Kenyans or most have a tribal alignment. Nothing wrong with it. So if a group of Luhyas do something foolish, it is apt to say 'the foolishness shown by those Luhyas' bcoz Luhyas did that. Mwakilishi is a low level gutter outlet that ferments tribalism. The man is a rabid vindictive tribalist based in Maryland. I will get my revenge.

@Missop, don't look to diasporans to set an example. They are simply transplants who tend to gravitate to the same ethnic groups and maintain the same petty jealousies and animosities they brought with them. There are many good things about the diaspora but there are many great things about Kenya. Tafuta mashujaa huko Kenya lakini usisahau they too are people so they will disappoint you
