Miguna Miguna Comes to the Aid of Poor University Student

Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna has come to the rescue of a needy University of Nairobi (UoN) student.

Through his law firm KMM Lawyers, Miguna has fully paid Esther Amimo Anyanzwa’s tuition fee as well as accommodation, books, food, and other basic needs.

Miguna was touched by the plight of Esther, who had been forced to do menial jobs such as laundry and house chores for other people to raise fees.

Esther was part of a two-member Kenyan team that won the UN Sustainable Development Global Awards during the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2019 in the United States.

In an interview last week, Esther narrated how her mother Ruth Owendi, a cook at Keriko Primary School in Lare, Nakuru County, was struggling to provide for her family of seven. Her father a former watchman, is ailing.

The girl used the Sh100,000 she won at the UN engineering fair to enroll for a Bachelor of Education course at the UoN in 2019.

“My annual school fees is KSh26,000 per year. So I have to get KSh18,000 to top up the Higher Education Loans Board’s relief of KSh8,000 per year,” she told The Star.

She also needed Sh3,500 for accommodation on-campus, food, laboratory manuals, printing paper, and other miscellaneous items.

Miguna, who was deported to Canada in 2018, said he will fund Esther’s university education to completion.

“Best of luck, Esther. Now, go and get your FIRST CLASS DEGREE,” Miguna tweeted.

Finally he’s doing something constructive instead of empty critiquing rhetoric! Good to make yourself relevant again for a noble cause with 2022 strategic around the corner. Very convenient ;). I have a list of 100 more Esther Anyanzwa’s. I have only afforded to help 6 (six). I can share the list with you if you can help a few of the 94 remaining. They are from my local village.

@miguna Miguna - a lot of other people have quietly done more than you have done educating kids across Kenya!

Your big mouth has to let the whole world know that at the end tail of your life, it has clicked in your damn head that Kenyans need help; but only within your poor luo community! Jaduong ithikanya Omena!!???

Many others from other communities have been paying school fees for your luo kids for as long as I can remember! However, it is good you have finally seen the light and joined the wealth of nations to help!

I have paid school fees for quite a number of luo children among others, but I did not come out here bragging! @miguna Miguna, you do it and keep your big mouth shut!

Welcome to the team of helping hands!

I really do not see why some people are bad-mouthing the "The General" for coming to the aid of a fellow Kenyan. The man is a politician and politicians like publicity. What is the difference between him giving this aid and announcing it and Ruto giving wheelbarrows and letting the whole world know?

@Kariuki @Ma’ngaa I see a lot of people on social media, news outlets and even politicians coming out and saying they have paid some student’s fees. Why don’t you tell those people to shut it or is it just plain loathing for Miguna? You should also learn to shut it no one needs to know you helped 6 kids too.

I wonder why those complaining about Miguna never criticized muchawi Raila whe he took a child he sponsors to school in a police helicopter.
