Kenyan Woman Dies After Receiving News of Daughter’s Death in Saudi Arabia

A woman in Kakamega County collapsed and died upon receiving news of her daughter’s death in the Middle East, where she worked as a house help.
A family representative said Joyce Felesia Shitawa fainted and was rushed to a local hospital, where she died from a heart attack days later.
Her daughter Rael Aketch, 37, is reported to have committed suicide at a police station in Saudi Arabia on April 5th.
Jackson Matendechere, a relative, said Felesia remained in a coma for four days and died at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital in Kisumu.
“…medics discovered that she had high blood pressure, and the veins at the back of her head had burst, causing blood to leak into her brain,” he told The Standard.
Aketch left the country for the Gulf state in December 2021 to look for greener pastures, with the hope of supporting her mother and two children.
Aketch is said to have had a disagreement with her employer and had taken refuge at South Damman Police Station, where she allegedly killed herself inside the cells.
“She had traveled to Saudi Arabia to work for her boss but things proved to be difficult between the two. Due to the differences, she reported the matter to the police and committed suicide while in police custody. What we are asking is how a police station where people who seek refuge can turn into a crime scene? We are very shocked and we call in the police to give us a detailed report on what transpired,” the family representative posed.
The family is pleading with the government to intervene and investigate the death of their kin as well as help them bring back her remains for burial.
“We have lost two of our loved ones and we just call on the government to help bring out kin back home,” a family member said.

Sorry to the bereaved but stop imagining these police stations provide any refuge . These killings will not stop . Just stop going over there . These Kenyan agencies should be sued and their offices closed down for good. Anybody leaving for greener pastures should be thoroughly interviewed by Kenyan immigration and made to sign an agreement that should they die over there their relatives will not ask the government for help in bringing back their corpse. They must divulge the name of their recruiting agency.

Our MPs who own these job agencies, as alleged before by some of their colleagues are still laughing their gullible mouths all the way to the bank, even as poor folks die at the merciless hands of these slave owners of Saudi Arabia. And the government is doing nothing about it!!!

What did we Africans do wrong to God if he really exists? We victimize each other in our own lands and outsiders do not see any redeeming qualities in us.

@ Mlandizi, if you really want to know the answer, delve into Islam, and you will find that Islam does not cast black people in good light. There is a mention of God casting black people in hell fire... Muhammud the prophet had female black sex slaves, and male slaves from Africa. It is also important to note that slavery in the Islamic world predates the European Slavery. Given this back drop, is there any wonder that they treat black people the way they do?
Obviously this is embarrassing history so Muslim apologists come with excuses such as," you have to look at it in the historical and cultural context". That's fine but any religion that mistreats other human beings, whether 1000 years,or 10 days does not deserve reverence in my opinion.
Lastly, the creator endowed all human beings with brains. Some how africans have decided to use their brains to just follow, and wait others to come up with solutions. Its time we took matters in our own hands. Our problems, our solutions.
If we are hopping for miracles from the Gods of Wazungus, we shall die waiting.Just ask your self how many miracles have you seen since you were born?Hard work, and brains produce results, not prayers. And yes, I know many will disagree with me,especially those who follow son of Mariam and Ndugu Imara Daima puts it. And ifyou are one of them, just tell me why your God does not just wipe out covid 19, or even malaria for that matter? Does it please him to see his creation suffer? My point, being, it high time we stopped looking at God for human solutions. He gave us tools and showed us how to use them- our creator that is.

It is sad and depressing to see that our two presidential candidates (R and R) are not addressing the issue of unemployment among the youth in their marathon daily campaigns! Nor are they offering any solutions to the rampant corruption and bribery cases in the nation.
We should be bold and courageous enough to ask them why they want to be elected president of Kenya!
