US-Based Blogger Frank Neva Shares Leaked Chats from Abedinecho Katue Bail Fund Group
A dispute has arisen over money raised to secure the release of Kenyan nurse and social media personality Abedinecho Katue after his arrest in the United States.
Supporters had organised a fundraising effort to meet bail conditions, but questions have emerged about how the contributions were used. Katue, 46, previously worked at AdventHealth hospital before he was sent home following an alleged assault incident.
Authorities later began searching for him, and he remained at large for nearly a year before he was eventually located and taken into custody. Katue had built a strong following among members of the Kamba community, particularly within the Kenyan diaspora.
For several months after his arrest, supporters avoided public discussion of the case. Attention increased after American media outlets published photographs and reports confirming that he was in detention.
His former wife, Rabecca Samuels, has since provided updates to Kenyans following the case. She said a WhatsApp group had been created to collect money to help meet Katue’s bail requirements.
According to Samuels, the bond was set at KSh 9.6 million. The court required 10 percent of that amount to be paid in cash, with property offered as collateral.
Samuels claims that some of the money raised by contributors in Kenya and the United States was mishandled. She alleges that funds were paid to a lawyer who did not deliver the expected legal services, leaving Katue in custody despite the fundraising effort.
Samuels urged contributors to request clear explanations about how their money was used. The controversy intensified after US-based blogger Frank Neva shared conversations from the fundraising group.
The messages showed members questioning why a lawyer from another state had been paid even though he was reportedly unable to arrange Katue’s release. Neva criticised the decision and suggested that the funds had been poorly managed.
