Kenyan Man Edwin Kiplangat Pleads Guilty to Murdering Wife in Reading
A Kenyan man has pleaded guilty to murdering his wife at their home in Reading.
Edwine Kiplangat, 29, admitted one count of murder and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared before Reading Crown Court on Friday, 22 May 2026. The charges relate to the fatal stabbing of his wife, 39-year-old Linner Sang, at their home on London Road, Reading, on 7 September 2025.
Police were called to the property shortly after 2.30pm following reports of a violent incident. Ms Sang was pronounced dead at the scene. Kiplangat was arrested the following day and charged two days later.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May of Thames Valley Police said the killing was planned. He told the court that Kiplangat knew Ms Sang would return to collect her belongings and intended to kill her. He added that the defendant attempted to flee after the attack and showed no concern for the injuries inflicted.
The court previously heard that Kiplangat was mentally fit to stand trial, with no concerns raised about his competency. Defence lawyers sought to examine issues including stress, anger and alleged infidelity, while prosecutors maintained that the killing was deliberate.
Kiplangat and Ms Sang had both worked as teachers in Kenya before moving to the United Kingdom, where they later worked in the care sector. Ms Sang’s body was returned to Kericho in September 2025 for burial.
Thames Valley Police said it remained committed to tackling violence against women and girls. The force also encouraged people concerned about abusive partners to use Clare’s Law, which allows individuals to check whether a current or former partner has a history of abusive behaviour.
Kiplangat remains in custody and is due to be sentenced at Reading Crown Court on 3 July 2026.
