Kenyan Woman Desperately Looking for Her Son Who Disappeared in the US

A Kenyan family is appealing for help to find their kin, who was reported missing in the United States.

Joshua Mbira Wanene, 38, last communicated with his family members about two years ago, and efforts to trace him since then have been futile.

His mother Margret Wanjiru Wanene, who lives in Limuru, Kiambu County, says her son started exhibiting mental health issues in 2003 and was put on medication by a doctor in Nairobi and his condition improved.

In 2012, Wanene, his wife, and one child relocated to the US via a green card and they settled in the state of Washington.

The man continued taking medicine prescribed by a doctor in Nairobi and his mother would buy the drugs in Kenya and send them to her son in the US.

Life went on well in the US and Wanene and his wife were blessed with their second child, but things changed when he felt he had recovered and stopped taking the drugs.

His mother says Wanene’s condition worsened after he stopped taking medicine to an extent that he tried to commit suicide by swallowing poison.

The man was then taken to a hospital for treatment, and when he was discharged, he decided to leave his wife and children to go and live with his sister in Tacoma, Washington.

Wanene lived with his sister for some time but they apparently disagreed on something and he took his luggage and left. That was the last time the family saw and heard from him as he appears to have changed his phone number.

His mother said her son was well when he traveled to Kenya in 2017 to attend his father’s burial, where he even read the eulogy.

Wanjiru, who is ailing and distressed, says her only wish is to find her son and has appealed to anyone who may be aware of his whereabouts to contact the family.

In the line of work I do, the saddest instances are when a Kenyan is picked up by police and brought to us because he went over the edge. I am now beginning to see Kenyan women in these circumstances.

Rotten really hit the nail on the head. I once lived for 2 months in an apartment complex full of undocumented Kenyans. Wewe! I did not know we are like that. These people were even jealous of my American-born kids. I swore from that day on that I will never be around Kenyans and that is now 23 years ago as of this writing. If I hear a Kenyan accent I run as if the police are chasing.

That is sad to hear. Might I suggest a method I use. Meet those who have no issues with makaratasi and don't need your money. Avoid any who have investment opportunities or fundraisers of dubious value. Banish any and all who come with their hands out for cash. No matter the story, assume it's a lie.

Most Kenyans in the diaspora have this inborn jealousy because of that silly Africanism mentality that your brother is your worst enemy if he is doing better than you. Some do not want to work hard to amass anything but again they are jealous of those who do.

I used to invite Kenyans over to my house for dinner, etc but I put a stop to that because of stupid ndomo and jealousy. African generally have deep scar issues of jealousy. And this runs deep in most Kenyan families. It’s the reason you see relatives in Kenya stealing from their own from the diaspora.

When Kenyan women arrive in America, the first thing is to drive the husband 🥜 nuts and 🍌 bananas. He may have run away from his wife because she was making him go crazy. Then went to live with a sister who demanded he pays part of rent, water, electricity and trash collection. Boy, the melting pot ain’t a joke. But at least he should contact the mother to give her some peace of mind and a few dollars, if at all he can hold a job! He may be training to get himself together financially. America can drive anyone 😜 crazy 😝 if you are not careful. All the same, I hope munene is found soon and given some help.

Usa aka United state of Gormolla many haven’t gone back 10/20/30 years due to papers.Many lost directions by leaving their families including children at early age who today the same children have married just because one don’t want to go back home??It takes planning n bin focused on what ones want but if u loose focus u will b doomed.Let’s hope ur son is ok,he is an adult Atleast he choose not to communicate either due to his illness or choose not to b bothered!Mama don’t worry to much about an adult who is almost 40 yrs.Watu wa majuu go through lots of problems trying to making ends meet.

I decided a long time ago that I would only ever help my mother. She had a major hand in my being on this planet. Everyone else has hands, feet, eyes and a brain just like me. The one word many of us fail to use is NO!!! Use this word liberally and don't explain why. One last thing, even your mother said NO to you when she could not afford yes or to teach you something - hard as it is, return the favor sometimes. You owe it to yourself and your dependents.

I am now going back to school to ask my English teacher how to use the word “NO”, and the actual meaning of “NO” in the English Dictionary”.

And how do you get over the guilt trip when you are consistently reminded that “oh we sent you to America to help the rest of us?” Food prices have shot up and the ts been too hot for anything to grow.

One thing I have learnt is that Gatheca is the last priority to those who demand to be helped. No one really thinks about you back home and even they don’t care how your future turns out.

Folks back in kenya can make a relative in the diaspora go crazy with endless cash demands. They think one has a dollar tree in the backyard where money flows like honey in the Amazon Basin.

Munene, just call your mama and let her know Kimeumana in America. Tell her the truth and ask her not to expect a lot from you. Also losing a Dad can cause depression to someone who had mental issues. It’s hard enough to be a boy child in this world.

Please munene call your mother and tell the real truth about your present situation. She will still love you and you will feel better as well.

This Wanene is sharper than you think. He has just figured that silence is the only way to cut off those placing huge demands on his shoulders.

At times you have to ignore people back home to make something for yourself. Otherwise you may end up eating a loaf of bread with a glass of cold water forever. It can be tough folks.
