IEBC Suspends Voter Registration in Kenya and Diaspora Until 2023

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended voter registration ahead of the August 9th elections.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said no registration of voters will take place in the country and diaspora until March 13th, 2023, when the continuous listing will resume.

“The IEBC gives notice that the application for new registration and change in registration of voters in Kenya and for Kenyan citizens living outside the country shall be suspended from May 4th, 2022 to March 13th, 2023,” Chebukati said in a gazette notice dated April 28th.

Section 5(1) (a) of the Elections Act says every adult Kenyan citizen has the right to register to vote until 60 days before the election date.

But IEBC argues that having a continuous voter registration while it is expected to audit the register and offer it for verification is irrational.

At the same time, the electoral commission announced it will open the voter register for verification following the completion of an audit.

"The IEBC gives notice that the new preliminary register of voters has been completed and is available for verification for a period of 30 days from May 4th to June 2nd, 2022," Chebukati added.

"A person who duly applied to be registered and his or her name or biometric data has not been captured correctly in the register of voters may make a claim to the registration officer within the period prescribed for verification. The claim must be made in the prescribed form."

After the verification exercise, the commission is expected to gazette the register for use in the August 9 general election.

AUGUST 09 GENERAL ELECTIONS IN KENYA:

The August 09, 2022, election should be postponed until a certain very important function is completed and finalized.
Why? This will give time for Ndugu Haji (Director of Public Prosecutions of Kenya), Ndugu Kinoti (Director of Criminal Investigations) and members of EACC (Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission) thoroughly vet all potential candidates before they are unleashed to the financially vulnerable, innocent, misinformed, and unsuspecting voters to vote for thieves, incorrigible liars, rapists, con artists, financial swindlers, land grabbers, insatiable and greedy gangsters as leaders of our country.

I do concur with you @daima. Thieves of our resources have no business running for political offices. I have said many time that Ruto and his UDAku team of thieves should be disqualified from running for any political positions.

MP Alfred Keter says it very well that Ruto has stolen everything including food items like maize and eggs. No wonder Ruto is fighting him very hard because he does not want to hear the truth.

We can wait another year until the corrupt politicians are well vetted out of politics. It’s time to clean our political system and vote for those who are clean and are willing to serve Kenyans☎️.

Kanjajeromi, you are right!! When nights approach, Ruto goes and breaks into peoples stores to steal maize and eggs while Keter watches him!!
Seriously, who doesn’t scream this nonsense?
It can only come from a mental retardant.

Chebukati is as corrupt as those stealing politicians. He is even worse because he knows how to saccumvent the laws.

I still don’t understand how kenya got stuck between a rock and hard place. But I also largely blame the voters to condoning corrupt leaders.

The voters praise thieves and so it’s just a man eat man society. I truly don’t feel sorry for the poor folks in kenya because they are a part of the corruption problem.

"When hyenas are allowed to lead the nation, ..."

We, the patriotic people of Kenya should not allow one man (Wafula) destroy the entire nation because of his unstable character as an active and closet member of the PLEHOC (Person Lacking empathy, Humanity, Or Conscience) Club?

The other day the former impeached governor of Nairobi was given clearance to run for the governor of Mombasa. In Homa Bay, the first corrupt governor of Nairobi Ndugu Kidero declared his desire and interest to run for the governor of Homa Bay.

How long can "we the people" allow incompetence, decadence, and corruption be the new guiding light of our slowly dying nation?
