Hellen Nyabuto's Parents Visit the Swimming Pool in Canada Where Their Daughter Drowned

The parents of Hellen Wendy Nyabuto, a Kenyan student who died while swimming in Canada last month, have visited the swimming pool where she drowned.

Accompanied by other family members, Hellen’s mother and father laid flowers at the edge of the pool's seven-foot mark where their daughter lost her life.

Reports indicate Hellen’s parents are in Canada in an effort to repatriate her body to Kenya for burial.

The 24-year-old was enjoying an afternoon swim on August 18th when she tragically drowned about 10 minutes into the live video. Her phone continued to record for over three hours.

Hellen, who hailed from Mesesi Village home in Bomachoge Chache, Kisii County, had relocated to Canada in December 2019 after securing a 10-year study visa via a lottery program.

She lived with her younger brother Enock Nyabuto in an apartment in Toronto and worked part-time as a health worker in Collingwood while studying nursing.

Her father Nyabuto John Kiyondi, a smallholder farmer, told CNN last month that he cried when he watched the video of his first-born daughter drowning.

"She communicated with me two days before she perished. She sounded very fine and I was very happy. She promised me a phone. I didn't feel anything abnormal," he said.

"She was assisting me financially to educate her siblings, particularly in terms of school fees and other expenses. I'm stuck now and back to square one. I'm wondering how her younger siblings will continue schooling.”

"According to our tradition, one is supposed to be buried where he or she was born. I'll not feel comfortable, psychologically, if my daughter is buried away from Kenya," he added.

I understand the parents pain. But seriously, a body is just a shell.
Seriously, I told my kids to have me cremated within 36 hours after my death.
It's in my will.
Funny enough, I told my kids to buy a 24oz of any beer, drink it or pour it and put my ashes in it. That's how I view a human body.

Heaven & hell is real! Unfortunately, it will be too late after you die to make that choice: This is the time to make that choice. Believing is a choice! You can believe whatever you choice to believe. You probably saying there is no heaven or hell coz u can see them: Let me ask you something: Can u see ur mind? Can u see ur thoughts? Will say u dont believe in mind coz u cant see it? You see: Believing is a choice. After u die you will the power to choice!

Beliefs are just beliefs. They are neither practical nor represent the reality. Reality like Wendy is dead and the old man needs money for school fees etc. Why then not spend the cash on the living needs instead of wondering as such?

When I am dead, I’m dead! Don’t make someone else richer with my hard earned cash for ridiculous burial rituals! After all I am dead, dead for eternity!

Respect other people’s cultures live and let live. Some people or should I say most people believe that a day should be set aside to mourn or say goodbye just as there was celebration of life when a child or most children are born.If you think it is a waste of money to contribute to funeral expenses or in this case bringing the entire family to see where their relative perished you are entitled to your opinion but do not impose it on others .Since the money you hope to save on your funeral will be put to good use by the ones you live behind as if you have any guarantees not that you can do anything about it if it is not because you will be gone
