Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza Appoints Husband to Her Cabinet

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has appointed her husband Murega Baichu to the County’s cabinet.

Baichu, a musician and businessman, was named the county’s Youth Service Patron and Hustlers’ Ambassador in the cabinet unveiled on Friday.

Governor Mwangaza defended the appointment, saying her husband will dispense the responsibilities on a voluntary basis without any remuneration.

She pointed out that Baichu will bring his vast experience to the county’s executive and drive the hustler agenda in the county.

“This office will not have a salary, neither will it have allowances. This office will be held by the first gentleman of the county,” said Governor Mwangaza.

On his part, Baichu promised to diligently serve the county, saying his first assignment is to set up studios for Meru Youth Service to nurture young talents, as well as exploit culture to generate revenue.

Governor Kawira unveiled a team of 10 Executive County Members, five less than the previous regime’s in a bid to reduce recurrent expenditure. The team is subject to vetting by the Meru County Government.

Mwangaza, who previously served as the Meru Woman Representative, won the gubernatorial race after defeating incumbent Kiraitu Murungi (Devolution Empowerment Party) and Senator Mithika Linturi (UDA).

Contesting on an independent ticket, she garnered 209,148 votes ahead of her closest competitor Senator Linturi who came in second with 183,859 votes. Kiraitu emerged third with 110,814 votes.

Mwangaza, who is also a bishop at Baite Family Fellowship Church, is the first woman Governor of Meru County since the onset of devolution in 2013.

No,no, no, this is not a family business. Ati hatakuwa na sarary? Who are you kidding? Meru people do not want some charity work and handouts from your husband. Sometimes there is nothing as bad as good intentioins. He can help Meru people all he wants but not a cabinet title. Are all the Meru cabinets members working for free? And if not, why is your huband going to work work for free. I guess you already know this is a fake appointment. You are just lining him up at the corruption feeding trough under the guise of charity work to Meru people. Just stop it!
