Mudavadi Resigns as ANC Party Leader After Appointment as Prime Cabinet Secretary

Musalia Mudavadi has resigned from his role as the party leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC) following his appointment to President Ruto’s Cabinet.
Mudavadi was sworn in as the Prime Cabinet Secretary on Thursday, a day after the National Assembly approved his nomination to the Cabinet alongside 23 other nominees.
His resignation is in line with Article 77 (2) of the Kenyan Constitution, which states that “any appointed State officer shall not hold office in a political party.”
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has been picked as the acting party leader of ANC following Mudavadi’s exit, ANC Secretary-General Simon Gikuru announced on Thursday.
Mudavadi, whose office is domiciled at the Kenya Railways Headquarters, is the country’s third most powerful leader after President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
His roles include assisting the president and the deputy president in supervising government ministries and State departments, implementing government policies, programs and projects, facilitating inter-ministerial work of cross-functional programs, and any other function as may be assigned by the President.
"He [Mudavadi] will oversee the government projects. He will coordinate national legislative agenda," President Ruto said last month.
