Kiambu Billionaire Stanley Githunguri Passes Away at the Age of 77

Kiambu billionaire Stanley Munga Githunguri has died at the age of 77.

Githunguri, a former Member of Parliament for Kiambaa Constituency, died while undergoing medical attention at a Nairobi hospital, The Standard reported.

Kiambaa MP John Njuguna condoled with the family of Githunguri, whom he described as a dependable leader whose undivided focus was the unity and progress of the country.

“I interacted with Githunguri as a young man, he was a dedicated leader who was committed to the welfare of his people,” Njuguna said.

The deceased ventured into politics in 2007 when he clinched the Kiambaa parliamentary seat which was previously held by former Cabinet minister and businessman the late Njenga Karume. He served as a member of parliament from 2007 to 2013 when he run for the Kiambu senatorial seat but lost to Kimani Wamatangi.

Last year, the tycoon was embroiled in a property row with his son Joseph Munga, who was demanding a share of his father’s multi-billion-shilling estate.

Munga secured an order to question his dad in the property row. This was after the Court of Appeal dismissed an objection raised by Githunguri’s daughters seeking to block him from appearing before High Court judge for questioning as requested by their brother.

The daughters Lilian Joy Ngagaki and Lilian Wanjiru claimed that their father suffers from dementia and requires to be placed under urgent care.

Githunguri, who once worked as a coffee picker, owns Lilian Towers, where Nairobi Safari Club sits and Ridgeways Mall and huge tracts of land in Kiambaa and Ruiru in Kiambu.
