President Ruto on Sondu Clashes: Govt to Act Firmly With Culprits

President William Ruto has issued a directive for the immediate apprehension and legal action against those responsible for the Sondu clashes.

He has instructed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to ensure that all individuals involved in the violent conflicts are promptly arrested and brought to justice. President Ruto has disputed the confrontations between the Luo and Kalenjin communities residing along the Kisumu and Kericho county border, deeming it a setback for progress. Speaking on Friday, Ruto emphasized that anyone found guilty will face arrest and trial as the government has done previously with bandits in the North Rift.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kabonyo Fisheries Aquaculture Service and Training Centre of Excellence in Nyando, Kisumu, the President highlighted the transformative impact of the project which is expected to be finished by next year. To enhance food security, Dr Ruto expressed his intention to utilize the fingerlings to replenish Lake Victoria and other fish ponds in the area. This initiative aligns with the government's efforts to promote food security, reduce living costs, and generate employment opportunities. Dr Ruto revealed plans to transform Beach Management Units (BMUs) into savings and credit cooperatives.

Furthermore, the government is currently in an advanced stage of developing nine fish landing sites, which will cost Sh900 million, including Lwanda Kotieno, Wichlum, Asat Beach, Ogal, and Sori in Migori. As part of his four-day visit to Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori counties, the President pledged to revive the struggling sugar industry. Just as he confronted the cartels that hindered the revival plans of Mumias Sugar Company, Ruto now vows to take action against those who attempt to derail the government's plans.
