President William Ruto's son George Ruto has been making waves in Nairobi's matatu industry with his strategic investments and growing influence.
Recently, George acquired a competing matatu for Sh8.7 million, a move that has attracted considerable attention within the sector. This purchase came after George successfully persuaded the vehicle's owner of the potential impact it could have on his existing fleet. George's involvement in the industry was highlighted during a live recording of the Matatu Galore podcast. He surprised his employee Fredy, a member of the Manifest matatu crew, with a supportive phone call while Fredy was a guest on the show. In a gesture of goodwill, George also provided lunch for the entire podcast team from a popular Nairobi eatery.
Branden Marshall, the podcast's host, emphasizes George's passion for matatu culture and his strategic efforts to establish a strong presence in the sector. Marshall notes that George actively participates in industry events and engages with the community, showcasing his commitment to the business. The Africa Mashariki Transport Awards, which recognize outstanding matatus on Nairobi routes, have become a focal point for George's ambitions. With voting already underway, George saw an opportunity to enhance his chances of winning by acquiring the Matrix matatu.
This vehicle, previously operating on Route 33 in Eastlands, now plies the Ngong Road route, further expanding George's influence in the industry. However, George's foray into the matatu business has not been without challenges. His first matatu, Money Fest, faced scrutiny for allegedly operating without proper registration and compliance with National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) regulations. The vehicle, known for its distinctive design, was eventually taken for inspection following public pressure. Despite these setbacks, George's dedication to the industry remains steadfast. Manifest, has gained popularity among Nairobi commuters due to its unique branding.
By acquiring Matrix, George aims to consolidate his position and increase his chances of success in the upcoming awards. The matatu industry in Nairobi is characterized by fierce competition, with operators constantly seeking ways to outperform their rivals.

They too have their ambitions and God given purpose and nobody should be biased against them or stop them. There's room at the table for everyone. Please expand your mind and heart.
