US Officials to Inspect JKIA Ahead of Kenya-US Direct Flights

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials will be in Kenya in October to carry out final audit on Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, setting the stage for Kenya Airways to start direct flights to United States next April.

If the audit is successful, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will receive the Last Point of Departure status, allowing it to fly flights from Nairobi directly to the United States.

Transport Cabinet secretary James Macharia said that the officials from the US department have confirmed the new audit date after they postponed it from this month.

“The officials from the US department of transport will be in the country in October to conduct the final audit on the Last Point of Departure, which will now allow for the start of direct flights between the two countries,” said Macharia.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority last month said that final audit had been postponed from June to until the August 8 elections are held.

Macharia confirmed that Kenya Airways applied for the Air Service License and Air Operation License to the United States authorities and the application is under process.
