A candlelight vigil was held at Zabeel Park in Dubai on 5 July to honour two Kenyans, Malon Kiptarus and Collins, whose deaths have deeply affected the Kenyan community in the United Arab Emirates.

The vigil brought together members of the Kenyan diaspora, including friends, relatives and members of the Esteem UAE family. Those attending paid tribute through prayers, candle lighting and moments of reflection, offering support to the families of the two men.

The gathering provided an opportunity for the community to mourn together and remember the lives of Malon and Collins. Many described the event as a source of comfort, with shared prayers and remembrance reinforcing the importance of supporting one another during difficult times.

Malon Kiptarus, who came from Kaptel-Kamoiywo Ward in Chesumei Constituency, Nandi County, died on 20 June after drowning at Jumeirah Beach in Dubai. His death came as a shock to friends and fellow Kenyans living in the Gulf region, who have since offered support to his family. The vigil also honoured Collins, whose death added to the community's sense of loss.

During the event, attendees shared memories of both men, recalling their friendship, kindness and positive influence on those around them. They also pledged to continue supporting the bereaved families as they cope with their loss. The evening ended with messages of hope, unity and mutual support.
