Taxi hailing firm Uber has rolled out foods’ delivery services in Nairobi as the US-based company continues to cement its presence in the Kenyan Market.
Dubbed Uber Eats, the new service will enable consumers to order food from restaurants of their choice through a mobile application at a flat delivery cost of Sh150.
Uber Eats has partnered with more than 100 restaurants operating within Nairobi city to initiate the service. The firm is initially targeting customers in Nairobi’s upmarket estates including Kileleshwa, Westlands, Karen, Kilimani and Lavington.
Uber Eats Kenya general manager Amal Devani said the new platform will revolutionize the food delivery industry in the country.
“The best part of this technology is the effort put in to service the right recommendations for the people depending on their preferences. It is a combination of machine learning and noting your previous preferences so that they can suggest food that is suitable for you whether it be through dietary preferences, speed or choice of cuisine,” he said during the launch.
Customers ordering food through the platform can make payments either by cash, credit card or mobile money service such as M-Pesa. Deliveries will be done through motorbikes with Uber Eats planning to sign more riders.
Kenya becomes the third country in the continent to get food delivery service after South Africa and Egypt.
