Alexander Muteshi Appointed as Kenya's New Immigration Boss

Alexander Muteshi has reportedly been appointed as the new head of Directorate of Immigration Services.

Muteshi received a letter of appointment from the Ministry of Interior on Thursday and will officially assume office on July 23rd, reports The Standard.

Until his appointment, Muteshi has been serving as the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director of counter terrorism coordination.

He will take over from Maj Gen (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa, who was appointed as the Principal Secretary in charge of Immigration and Registration of Persons by President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier this year.

After Kihalangwa joined Cabinet, deputy director Joseph Munywoki took over the position in acting capacity.

Muteshi comes in at a time when the Ministry of Interior under the leadership of Dr Fred Matiang'i is planning to launch a major crackdown of foreigners living and working illegally in the country.
