Turkey has backed Kenya in its fight against the insurgency of Somalia-based terror group Al Shabaab, who have carried out a series of attacks in recent weeks in Lamu, Mandera, Garissa and Tana River Counties.
In a statement, Turkey pledged that it will stand with Kenya in launching anti-terrorism war that continues to pose threat to the country’s prosperity.
Delivering the support, Turkey Ambassador to Kenya Deniz Eke expressed optimism that Kenya will conquer terrorism, adding that his country will continue to assist Kenya in all means.
"We express our heartfelt condolences and support to our Kenyan friends following the recent terrorist attacks. Enhanced and unconditional cooperation and solidarity are key in the fight against terror, whichever sinister methods terrorists may adopt," Eke said in a statement to the media.
Days ago, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers rescued Ministry of Public Works Principal Secretary Mariam El-Maawy, who had been abducted by al Shabaab Militants in Lamu after an ambush on her entourage at Milihoi on Lamu-Mpeketoni highway.
El-Maawy was left seriously injured, while the insurgents killed four people including her nephew and board guard.
President Uhuru Kenyatta in his tour to Lamu County on Monday ordered police and security officers to kill and bury the Militants who have terrorized residents in the past few weeks.
