A United States top government official will be in Kenya for three days to push for dialogue between president Kenyatta's side and Raila Odinga-led National Super Alliance (NASA) following a disputed presidential election.
Donald Trump's administration said that acting assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Donald Yamamoto arrived in the country on December 4th. During the time, the diplomat will hold discussions with the two warring sides in a bid to arrive at a compromise.
“He will meet with representatives of the Kenyan government, as well as with Kenyan civil society. The visit will encourage all sides in Kenya to participate in a national dialogue following the presidential election,” says the statement from the office of the US government spokesperson.
The country was thrown into political tension after the Supreme Court nullified president Uhuru's August 8th victory and ordered a fresh poll be held within 60 days. However, opposition leader Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka pulled out of the repeated president poll held on October 26th, citing refusal by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to undertake reforms that would lead to a credible elections.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner of the repeat poll after garnering about 98 percent of the total votes cast. His reelection was challenged at the Supreme, but six judges unanimously upheld his victory.
Uhuru was sworn in to office for his second term on November 28th, but Odinga and his brigade have vowed not to recognise his as legitimately elected President. The opposition chief has announced he will be installed as people's president at a ceremony scheduled for December 12th.

/What dialogue? Do we need US to initiate a dialogue , geared towards what exactly or it is another way to negotiate nusu mkate? This is meddling ! We are democracy, one side won ,the other lost. The last time I checked opposition MCAs etc are working and getting paid .
Raila can only be sworn in as people's President if Uhuru and Ruto allow him to.
Kenya needs to send their officials to DC to tell Trump to share the boflo with Hillary Clinton
Dialogue for what NASA is not interested in NUSU MKATE .There were no talks before the élections what has changed or you think that because UK was sworn in it now makes his theft of the élections legit and now he is ready to talk?.Baba is the people`s president and a swearing in ceremony did not erase the inequality or unpopularity of Jubilee. Yaani why are people acting surprised when you steal an election there will be repercussions .Nothing has changed .Resistance movement bado iko
UK was sworn in it BECAUSE HE WON....a second time this year, mark you!
That half-witted man you call babayako is NOT a president; WE ONLY HAVE ONE PRESIDENT IN KENYA, and he is the President of the PEOPLE of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.
People are acting surprised because they are wondering:-
Who in the world does not know that there must be a WINNER and a LOSER in an election. The one who wins becomes the President, the loser takes the back burner. WHY DOES RAO THINK A LOSER CAN BE THE PRESIDENT? Who wants a loser for a president?
As usual the civilized world has to stop the natives from killing each other
there are no natives killing each other - just a few jaruos committing suicide every other day

Only 26.3% of US registered voters voted for Donald Trump vs 26.5% for Hillary Clinton in 2016 Presidential elections. Compare the 2 to Uhuru Kenyatta who garnered 38.8% of Kenyan registered voters but we have yet to hear cries for "negotiations" between Trump and Clinton camps even though there is a lot of angst among democrats in regards to Trump's win. State Dept Rep Yamamoto should not call for imposing unelected leaders on Kenyan people since it is no difference than imposing dictatorship on Kenyan people. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/11/politics/popular-vote-turnout-2016/index…
US is a nation of laws. I hope whoever is sent first reads our constitution and tell us where that constitution provides for dialogue. Uhuru must remember he swore to protect our constitution. The dialogue took place on October 26th between Mwananchi and the candidates at the time. Kibaki failed our constitution test by allowing foreigner's to change our constitution by creating a Prime Minister position that was not provided for in the constitution. Uhuru failed our country once by allowing Raila to bulldoze the first IEBC without following the constitution. Thereby creating the Raila we have today who believes he is above the law and he does not have to follow the constitution. This time there should be no dialogue at all. Let the chips fall where they may, for if we don't there will be winers in every election until we change the constitution to accommodate everyone who raises tantrums. Eventually, we will have no constitution and no institutions because no one will feel obligated to follow it and no one will have any respect for our institutions. Uhuru has a chance to built his legacy by either destroying our constitution by allowing it to be changed or upholding it and respecting the oath he took. After all said and done, it is Kenyans who will have to deal with the aftermath. I ask all Kenyan law makers to uphold our constitution and respect our institutions. If we don't respect them, no one will. Ignore all the noise and start building our country. Do not allow one individual to bold the country at random again. It is a tough call, but you will have to choose between destroying our constitution or upholding it. This is a judgement call. I hope you choose to uphold it for future generations.
US is a good example of how national dialogue between Winner Hillary Clinton and Trump has yielded equity, justice for all Americans.
