Girls have once more outshone boys in the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), like it was the case in the 2017 KCPE exams results released last month.
In the results released on Wednesday by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, the first two positions were occupied by girls, the best performing boy taking third place.
Karimi Naomi Kawira from Pangani Girls emerged top student with a mean grade of 87.011 followed by Sharon Chepchumba of Moi Gilrs Eldoret who scored a mean of 86.830, while Kamau Brian Maina of Alliance High School closed the top three with mean of 86.757.
A total of 142 students scored straight As in this year’s KCSE, an improvement by one from 2016, where 141 had scored the same.
Releasing the results at the Nairobi School, Matiang’i noted that the number of A- (minuses) dropped to 2,714 this year from 4,645 in the previous year.
Pangani Girls was named the most improved school this year, with Alliance Girls and Kenya High School showing consistency in their last year's performance.
Receiving the results from Matiang'i earlier in the day, President Kenyatta directed the CS to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to enroll all 3 million secondary school students into the NHIF programme from January, 2018.

I am in Kenya quite often and I notice that male role models would rather spend time in bars than with their sons. This is what we are reaping for years of neglecting the boy child...
and those who cannot afford beer goes to Mungetho
This gender comparison is pathetic. Who cares which gender made it to the top or not? Kenya needs to stop this girl child against boy child nonsense. We are in 2017, everyone has opportunity to excel.
