Heavy Downpour Forces Motorists to Spend the Night on Mombasa Road

Hundreds of motorists and travelers headed to Nairobi on Saturday were forced to spend the night on the busy Mombasa Rd after a massive traffic snarl caused by heavy rains.
Hundreds of vehicles were stuck in the mud and an accident that involved a truck and a small car at Lukenya claimed one life, worsening the situation.
By midday Sunday, traffic officers from Machakos and Athi River were still trying to clear the traffic gridlock that was made hard by overlapping motorists and stalled trucks along the highway.
Machakos base commander Abdinassir Harun said officers are doing everything possible to restore order, even as thousands of travelers remain stranded.
On Friday, heavy downpour in Nairobi caused floods, rendering several roads in the city impassable. Most affected areas included South C, sections of central business district, Thika superhighway, Westlands and Industrial area.
Different parts of the country continue to receive heavy rainfalls.
