The Boeing B787-8 Dreamliner (5Y-KZE) K003 carrying 234 passengers arrived in Nairobi at around 9:30 am on Tuesday, slightly above 13 hours since it left New York's JFK International Airport on Monday.

The long-haul flight was expected to touch the ground at JKIA at between 10:30am and 11am but landed earlier than scheduled. On arrival at the Nairobi airport, the flight also received a water salute.

It was received by Deputy President President William Ruto and other top government officials. Ruto has challenged Kenya Airways to improve its customer services.

"It would be an exercise in futility for the country to celebrate such a milestone only to be crippled by poor customer relations," Ruto says.

"Good customer service is the heart of every successful organisation. I want to appeal to Kenya Airways to up their game when it comes to this."

"Let our guests and your clients feel proud of your services. Even Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) must take this advantage and offer an exceptional welcome to our visitors."

"Ruto has challenged Kenya Airways to..." and also account for every penny that comes in..we're tire of hearing loss after loss at the"Pride of Africa". Wouldn't that be better for the slogan anyway????

Quoting ruto and accountability in the same sentence kinda nullifies the point.

    Lol, exactly.

Better late than never. About ten other African countries have direct flight to the US and the rest are possibly not trying as they know the flight are more hype than substance.

Instead of celebrating we should be asking why it took so long and such a struggle.

We have direct flights to a host of European countries. What benefit are those direct flights? How much would Kenya loose if it stopped flying direct to say France?

I have to say I salute KQ and was proud to see them finally achieve this. I will definitely book a ticket because I hate going thru Europe to visit.

Nice one Jamama. Also have you guys noticed all small airlines just go to New York? It will be a pain to connect. ATL would have been perfect but hio will go to Delta soon then KQ will struggle to fill seats. Wait and see
