14 Riverside Terror Attack: Police Say Gunmen Still Holed Up at Dusit Complex

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet says the gunmen behind Tuesday afternoon attack at Riverside 14 are still holed at the dusitD2 complex.
Speaking during a media briefing, Boinnet says a multi-agency security operation is ongoing to flush out the criminals.
“We regret to inform that today at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, a group of unknown armed assailants attacked the Dusit complex in what we suspect could be a terror attack,” says Boinnet.
He adds: “We are aware that there still could be some armed criminals still holed up in the building and our special forces are engaged in an operation to flush them out.”
He further notes that the number of casualties is still unknown but revealed that many people, some with injuries, have been evacuated from the area.
“Security and emergency services responded quickly to the incident and we immediately cordoned off the area and the situation is being managed and we’ve made evacuation of many persons in the complex and the operation is still ongoing,” says Boinnet.
“We wish to also regret that there could be some injuries in the attack and we are in the process of confirming the nature and types of injuries.”
Reports indicate that six armed attackers arrived at the scene aboard two cars, one which they blew upon entry, and a Toyota saloon car bearing registration number KCN 340E.
The gunmen allegedly forced their way into 14 Riverside Drive by firing at guards, hurled explosives into vehicles and went into Dusit D2 Hotel.
Al Jazeera reports that Al-Shabaab, through their military operations spokesman has claimed responsibility for the attack.
"We are behind the attack in Nairobi. The operation is going on. We shall give details later," Abdiasis Abu Musab, Al Shabaab's military operations spokesman, told Reuters.

What pleasure do these terrorists get by harming the innocent people?.Violence begets violence and the terrorists are out numbered. Why cannt they resort to diplomacy ,and leave this cowardly acts.Kenya has been agood neighbor and some of these terrorists may have even benefited from this good neighborliness. Shame on them.Ihope that they are not invoking their God while committing these heinous crimes.I iwould also hope that no God condones these kind of attrocities.

@ Imara Daima, mara mingi sana. What disappoints me most is the silence from the majority who follow this Islam religion. When have you seen these majority organizing themselves and protesting the acts of the few whom they claim are misrepresenting islam? At least Christian's dont go around killing people in the name of Jesus.

The funny thing is the Kenyans on twitter, on the ground , family etc unlike our "safe" diaspora are praising the swiftness in which the security officers got to the scene and contained what would have been deadlier but us holier than thou selves in our comfort of our laptops and foreign country do not see anything positive but sit around and find this as an opportune time to condemn whatever ill we uphold of the govt . I love how our Kenyans in Kenya are more patriotic than the lot in Diaspora, the called out NY times tweet and it was brought down. It comes a time when you stand with the country no matter how rotten against the enemy , funny this is displayed in the so called country you habitat and yet you cannot accord that to your own country! God bless Kenya with all its flaws at this time- I still have 90% of family there and at this time I stand in solidarity , I will judge the shortcomings later!

Ndugu Tutu wa Afrika ya Kusini alisema, "...If you are silent in situations of injustice, you have taken the side of the oppressor." Nimemnukuu (I have quoted) Ndugu Tutu kwa sababu, watu wengi wakianza kusema jambo hili halifai, utawala (the rulers) husikiliza.

@ Ndugu Imara ,well said.Iam glad wafrica are slowly waking up.Granted years ago forums like this did not exist ,many Christians would not dare question the bible. But iam sure Ndugu Imara,we have made some Christians and muslims at least question the so called word of God.And questioning is an essential part of learning the truth.
