Nairobi: 7 Pupils Die, 57 Injured as Classroom Structure Collapses

Seven pupils lost their lives on Monday morning after classrooms at Precious Talent School along Ngong Road in Nairobi collapsed.
The death of the seven learners was confirmed by government spokesperson Colonel Cyrus Oguna, who indicated that 57 other kids sustained injuries and were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
Oguna said the government would cater for the medical bills of the pupils injured during the 6.50 am incident.
“57 students have been taken to hospital for treatment and we can also confirm that there have been seven fatalities. This is a private school but the government is going to ensure the injured pupils receive medical treatment,” said Oguna.
The affected classrooms were in a one-storey building with the top floor housing junior primary pupils while the ground floor accommodated learners in Class Six, Seven and Eight.
The owner of the school, Moses Wainaina blamed the incident on the construction of a sewer line nearby by Nairobi county government.
“A sewer line was under construction just next to the school and that is what we suspect may have caused this tragedy,” he said.
Parents and locals, however, accused the school’s management of negligence, saying the structure was weak.
The collapsed building was made up of concrete, iron sheets and timber.

May the little Angels RIP and a quick recovery to the injured. Unfortunately this won’t be the last. Whenever public funds are embezzled, safety codes and stable infrastructure are not improved ,monitored or inspected due to lack of funds. These tragic and unfortunate loss of our future generation are obviously due to corruption. The blood of these innocent younglings are definitely in the hands of the crooks running the counties and country as a whole. kila mtu atabeba mizigo zake mbele ya Mungu
Gosh! RIP.

MY HEART FELT CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILIES.
This is the price we're paying for corruption.
First of all I don't think that the building was up to city codes and building regulations, but it passed all inspections...someone needs to be held accountable for this.
Like Wololo said this ain't the first nor the last.
What measures will the Cities take to curb this sorts of tragedies?
But as long as Watoto wa wakumbwa are not hurt, we will continue seeing more tragic incidents like this.
Again, my condolences.
