Hongera: US Commends Kenya for Being Ranked Most Generous African Nation

The United States through its Nairobi Embassy has commended Kenya for being named the most generous nation in Africa.

Kenya was ranked number one in Africa and 11th globally in the 10th edition of the World Giving Index released on Tuesday by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

"Hongera Kenya for being the most generous country in Africa! Kenya is moving forward as a benefactor rather than a beneficiary," the US Embassy in Nairobi said in a statement.

The study assessed 125 countries across the world and interviewed a total of 1.3 million people between 2009 and 2018.

The research examined three aspects of giving behaviors namely; helping a stranger, donating money and volunteering.

The US was rated as the most generous country in the world over a decade with 58 percent, followed by New Zealand (57 percent), Ireland (56 percent), the United Kingdom (54 percent) and Sri Lanka (51 percent).

On the other hand, China was ranked as the least generous nation followed by Greece, Yemen, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Serbia.

Kenya was ranked high on account of "donating money" what we call here harambee. Most of the money donated in harambee is donated by one person and all of the money he donates is stolen from us.
