Former Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa Arrested as Police Raid His Home, Seize Five Luxury Cars

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Echesa was arrested on Monday afternoon, hours after the detectives drawn from the Economic Crimes Unit raided his home in Nairobi’s Karen estate.

The officers were forced to jump over the fence after Echesa allegedly refused to open the gate until his attorney arrives.

Echesa was driven to DCI headquarters for questioning over the alleged illegal acquisition of several vehicles.

Five high-end cars found in Echesa’s compound were seized. They include a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, Mercedes Benz E Class, VW Passat, Lexus saloon and Ford Ranger pickup.

Echesa was last month arrested and charged alongside three others over the alleged issuance of a fake military tender worth Sh39 billion to two foreign nationals.

The three pleaded not guilty to fraud-related charges and were released on Sh1 million cash bail each.

Any moving vehicle is a high end here. It becomes a Limo if it is painted white - even a Mkokoteni is a high end means of transportation!
