Uhuru Confesses to Reading Kenyans’ Memes Online Despite Deactivating Twitter, Facebook Accounts

Although he deactivated his Facebook and Twitter accounts in 2019, it appears President Kenyatta has been keeping tabs on what Kenyans say on social media.

In his address to the nation on Saturday, Kenyatta admitted to reading memes and jokes Kenyans were making on social media in anticipation that he would lift restrictions imposed by the government to combat the spread of Covid-19.

“Twajua ni muda mgumu. Nimeona meme mingi zile mnatuma tuma huko sijui independence day, freedom day,” Uhuru said in Swahili.

“Hii sio mambo ya independence ni maisha jameni. Hatufanyi hii kuumiza mtu yeyote. Jamani twafanya hii kuhakikisha maisha ya watu wetu yako salama. Afadhali uwe hai ndio uweze kula hiyo hepi ambayo unatafuta. Lakini ukiishia hiyo hepi ulikula sikumoja iwe ndiyo itakupeleka kwa kaburi, sioni haja wenzangu. Tutulie, nafasi bado itakuja.”

This left Kenyans online wondering how Uhuru managed to follow their conversations on social media as he deactivated his accounts with some suggesting that he is using a pseudo account.

@MwalimChurchill asked: “Yangu ni swali tu wangwana...Juu uhunye alitoka kwa mitandao..hizo memes zenu anazionea wapi...?”

Tks H.E. President for reading our comments. However, You should put those leaders who gathered at Kapsirwo for the Talai event in quarantine facility. Including hon. Ruto, your deputy for dishonoring the ban on social gathering and exposing Kenyans to corona Virus. They disrespected your orders and moved out of Nairobi Or are the orders meant for only the common Wanjiku?
