MP Didmus Barasa Arrested, Charged with Fraudulent Sale of Sh450,000 Car

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa was on Tuesday arrested and arraigned in court over alleged fraudulent sale of a car worth Sh450,000.

Barasa appeared at Kajiado Law Courts, where he was charged with obtaining Sh450,000 from one John Irungu Mwangi pretending he was in a position to sell him a vehicle.

He also faced a second count of fraudulent disposition of mortgaged property in Kitengela on March 10th, 2017. The payments of the car, a Toyota Hiace of registration KBX 734E, had not been completed at Uwezo Microfinance Bank

But the MP through his attorney John Khaminwa argued that the sale was made on a willing buyer willing seller basis through an intermediary, accusing Mr. Mwangi of breaching the agreement. He also claimed the complainant was out to extort him under the guise of compensation.

Further, lawyer Khaminwa accused Mr. Mwangi of subjecting his client to untold mental anxiety by colluding with police officers to intimidate and frustrate him.

“The intimidating, oppressive, unreasonable and threatening conduct and behavior of the police officers is causing the MP to suffer untold mental anxiety with serious ramifications to his mental and physical state in complete contravention of his rights,” said Khaminwa.

Barasa pleaded not guilty to the two charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000. The case will be mentioned on August 27th.

Last month, Barasa moved to court to seek anticipatory bail blocking his arrest in the case.

Wow, now the MPs are conning folks like a poor tout would do! Why not jail him for life? A law maker being fraudulent ought to be jailed for 100 years! What I’m reading here is just crazy!!

Can Barasa set a good example by admitting he is wrong? Senator Sakaja proved to be more a “man” by accepting his wrongs and even resigned from a position he held a few weeks ago!

Kenyans - now compare Barasa and Sakaja! Who do you want to be a law maker between the two? Sakaja acted honorably! Barasa should be thrown in jail for lying! Period! I’m mad at Barasa!

The thief in Barasa will not stop until that Rama’s is tamed with a heavy penalty! Kenya can’t have thieves making laws for us! Please Barasa give us a damn break and resign the MP seat!
