Uhuru Extends Nationwide Curfew, Closure of Bars by a Week

President Kenyatta has extended the existing Covid-19 containment measures by a week.

The measures imposed on August 26th include the daily 9 pm to 4 am nationwide curfew and the closure of bars, night clubs, and other entertainment joints.

The restrictions aimed at containing the spread of the disease in the country will remain in effect until September 29th, according to the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

In a gazette notice on Monday, Kinyua said President Uhuru will give his 12th national address on the Covid-19 situation in the country on Tuesday.

Uhuru will deliver the address a day after presiding over the National Covid-19 Conference scheduled for Monday. The summit will review the national and county Covid-19 response and chart the country’s post-Covid-19 future.

“The National COVID-19 Conference will be presided over by his excellency the President on Monday, 28th September 2020, and will feature participants from the entire spectrum of our national life. This pivotal conference is tipped to be a turning point in Kenya’s fight against the novel coronavirus Disease,” Kinyua said.

"Flattening the COVID-19 curve is a national endeavor that requires action at the individual, community, county, and national levels. Every one of us must play our part for Kenya to triumph over the disease."
