President Uhuru Visits Soldiers Injured in Fatal Military Helicopter Crash

President Kenyatta has visited Kenya Air Force soldiers who were injured in a helicopter crash on Thursday.

The president visited the accident victims at the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Memorial Hospital in Mbagathi, Nairobi on Friday evening to wish them quick recovery.

The military aircraft on a training mission crash-landed in Magadi, Kajiado County at around 9:00 am on Thursday morning.

KDF spokesperson Zipporah Kioko said all soldiers on board the ill-fated aircraft were accounted for.

The Kenya Air Force Mi 171E chopper had departed the Moi Airbase in Nairobi at 8.10 am before it crashed about 30 minutes later.

Witnesses said the aircraft immediately burst into flames after crashing.

At least 10 troops were killed while 13 others sustained injuries and were airlifted to the military hospital in the capital.

Reports indicate the helicopter circled in the air for nearly 20 minutes as those onboard scrambled to jump out.

Kajiado West Deputy County Commissioner Muranga Morakwa said the troops have been training in the area for a long time.

Aircraft accident investigators were dispatched to the scene to establish the cause of the crash.
