Ann Kananu to be Sworn In as Nairobi’s Third Governor on Tuesday

Deputy Governor Ann Kananu is set to be sworn in as the third Governor of Nairobi County on Tuesday.
In a letter dated November 11th, acting Nairobi County secretary Jairus Musumba requested the Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi to avail a judge to preside over the ceremony. The event will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) Comesa grounds.
This comes after the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed an appeal by former Governor Mike Sonko challenging the swearing-in of Kananu. Five judges ruled the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the application by Sonko, saying it was premature and did not meet the threshold of the Constitution.
Sonko, who was impeached in December 2020 on grounds of gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office, and crimes against national law, conceded defeat and thanked Kenyans for giving him the chance to serve them.
“Fellow Kenyans, I concede defeat by accepting the Supreme court’s verdict this afternoon. God’s timing is the best and a time will come when he’ll give me another chance to serve Kenyans in any capacity.”
“I’m forever grateful for the opportunity I had working for you, I will continue doing so. For now, we leave everything to God. We live to fight another day.”
