Fire Guts Down a Dormitory at Jamhuri High School in Nairobi

A fire broke out at Jamhuri High School in Nairobi on Sunday night, razing down one of the dormitories. The 300-student capacity hall of residence went up in flames at around 8:00pm.

Firefighters from the Nairobi County government and police arrived at the scene to battle the raging fire whose cause was not immediately established.

Witnesses said the inferno destroyed the one-storey building and was about to spread to adjacent buildings. “The roof of the building has caved in, it is a huge fire,” said a witness.

Students were evacuated to the school playground and no casualties were reported.

The incident comes amid calls for a probe into the new wave of fire cases in schools across the country.

Over the past week, fire incidences have been reported in about 10 schools including Maranda High, Kakamega High, Mwala Girls, Nyamira Boys, and Nambale High. This prompted MPs to summon Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to discuss the wave of fires in schools.

The useless parliament should also summon jambazi Matiang’i to explain how criminals illegally enter schools with flammable materials without detection. The parents should go to court to challenge illegal order that all parents pay for damage coursed by a few arsonists.

@ Romeo wrote, " Prayers to our schools and institutions."

Prayers are based on superstition. If prayers were not based on this construct, Kenya would have become an international paradise by now. Stop praying and take immediate action against all the enemies of the state. The enemies of the state are liars, thieves, killers, rapists, con artists, or anyone giving or accepting bribes.
Stop praying and take concrete action against irresponsible people. If we strengthen the role the judiciary in our nation, irresponsible citizens should be required to face their actions without exceptions. If this happens, Kenya could reclaim its lost glory by becoming a paradise again.
SOLUTION:
Eliminate all institutions that are based on superstition and let the judiciary play a central role in eliminating and taking a stern action against anyone acting in an irresponsible manner targeting our institutions by stealing our collective national property.

As an ordinary Kenyan all I can do is pray my friend. Don’t judge others according to their faith and beliefs. As an ordinary Kenyan I don’t have resources to act on some incidents ask those incompetent leaders to do so. Are we together?

300 in one building. I think as much as these incidents are a reflection of the ills in the society, there is overcrowding in these dorms. Every time I see the remnants of the burnt out dorms, I pity these students. A long term goal should be to decongest these students.

PRIDE IN EVERYTHING AFRICAN
@ Ezzy:
Don't be easy to be manipulated by "foreign fake religious beliefs." Their religious fake books were written by ordinary people and then they lied to the whole world that an "invisible fake deity" is responsible for the two books!
Ezzy, there are 4,300 religions in the world and each one of them claiming to know the truth.
Religion is a byproduct of people’s language, culture, and history. That is why a “thinking African” cannot be a believer of any foreign fake religion! By the way, why do you have a foreign name?
See how our nation has gone to the dogs when people without the skills of "Critical Thinking" fell to these religions whose followers are responsible for the African Slave trade and the daily despising of the African skin color and hair texture!
