Kenya’s Ambassador to the US Lazarus Amayo has called on Kenyans in the diaspora to invest back home.
Amayo urged Kenyans living and working abroad to take advantage of the prevailing investment climate in Kenya and invest in various sectors brought about by devolution, the Big Four Agenda, as well as Kenya Vision 2030.
He was speaking during a meeting with Kenyans living in Seattle, Washington where he outlined the services offered by the embassy, the government diaspora policies, and ways of collaboration in advancing Kenya’s interest abroad.
The diplomat also underscored the pivotal role the diaspora plays in economic development through remittances and investments.
Data by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) shows Kenyans in the diaspora sent home $329.1 million (Sh36.02 billion) in November, representing a five percent drop from Sh38 billion ($337.4 million) received in the previous month which was a record for remittances in a single month.
The cumulative remittances in the 11 months to November totaled Sh377.01 billion, surpassing the overall remittances for the year 2020 which stood at Sh348.17 billion.
The United States remains the single largest source of diaspora remittances to Kenya, accounting for 67.3 percent of the money received in November.
During Sunday’s meeting, Kenyans in Seattle thanked the embassy and the government of Kenya for their continued support.
They expressed the need for the government to consider opening up a consulate in Seattle to bring services closer to them given that Washington DC, Los Angeles, and the New York offices were far.

Can he protect people first from the
Real estate thieves who have conned many people in the name of gated communities. Otherwise he needs to leave us alone. I am not investing in Kenya anymore.
You can only invest in a trustworthy system of business. Not sure we have this in Kenya yet where 90% including relatives are conmen! I am a 3 time victim of being conned both by relatives and others. I have up!!! Never again in Kenya. Unless mbingu ipasuke!
Amayo should have given examples like sale of Kenyan IDs,rudeness and ignoring calls as some of the services rendered at the embassy. He should also have explained whether the embassy is owned by the staff working there plus Uhuru or Kenyan taxpayers.Amayo should also have explained why the embassy employees have negative altitude towards fellow Kenyans.I traveled(late 2019) from Minneapolis to DC for my ID but a lady told me to travel to Nairobi after declining to pay $50.
Kenyans in America are investing in America.
Kenyans in Kenya need to invest in Kenya.
Amayo is an agent of “dr”/“bishop” Gakuyo Ngari and Kithaka. He will get share for any amount you pay.He is also an agent of expired conman Moi.The guy also gets commission when diasporans invest in bloody/death companies like EMBAKASSI RANCHING FARM & MBO-I-KAMITI.
Its the high time this Old slogan- invest back home stop.Let those who are in abroad invest abroad and settle there. They should come back as tourists they can't have 2 legs one abroad the other for home. Again graft is very high there and many have not been assisted to recover loses by plot sellers who peddle like wolves looking for the dollar . Relations are worse they eat your investment to the ground and think of u in dollars .This ambassador should do a better job. Help kenyas in issues of passports, recovery of lost funds, taxes and hiring those abroad to work in the embassies .
Whom can you really trust in that place? Not a lawyer, not a pastor, not family members, not real estate developers, and not even government officials. If home is where one is happy, I will continue living in the diaspora and have already bought my burial plot.
He should concentrate on the Embassy in DC, rude and incompetent staff.
you can't invest in kenya just to get a simple government document takes you days....Nobody from the diaspora has time for nonsense like that forget it and the attitude starts from the airplane if you are taking kenya airways get to the airport more attitude, tribalism and rudeness ...I invested right here in USA ....met my mayor the other day simple guy no security detail asked about services in the neighborhood easy access not the crazy rude politicians in kenya ....Bure kabisa
Ati the only thing this new moron ambassador comes with is 'INVEST IN KENYA' like he is talking to his children. You are a monoin America brother. Wacha kusikiza wakora wanaokuzingira. Instead of fixing one of the worst lame duck embassy in the world, anaongea mahali anaweza anza kampuni ili wakiwa na Gakuyo watutapeli sisi. Fix that useless and toothless embassy first. You go there and you feel like seeking helps from Tanzanian or Ugandan embassy. They never respond to anything, yet kuna wafanya kazi wanapikiwa chai saa nne. My friends dont ever dare invest in that innocent country. Ninety nine point nine five of all Kenyans are thieves, conmen/women, frausters, wachoraji, and all all the above. Sanya dabo zake and then take weeks off to do what you would like to do. And dont stay around your home or village. Bure kabisa.
why would I invest where everyone wants to take, steal and rob from you.
why would I want to invest in a environment that is not conducive for business go to any county or government office to get a simple document takes you days, with attitude giving secretaries mainly on the personal phone can't even look at you,to the famous saying "He/she not here today come tomorrow "
Attitude and rudeness starts at the airplane if taking kenya airways, moving to JKIA with rude airport staff,KRA tax guys demanding you pay for clothes that you brought to wear.
why would I invest in such a place????
The ambassador should fix the mess at the embassy in DC.
Just keep buying more crypto. Forget investment if you ain't there
