Kenya Deports Two Fugitives Wanted in the UK for the Murder of a 16-Year-Old Boy

Two fugitives who were arrested in Nairobi last week have been deported to the UK to face murder charges.

Mohamud Siyad Abdihakim (24) and Tariq Kennedy Mangal (21), both of British origin, are said to be part of a gang that killed 16-year-old Alex Smith in north London in August 2019.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) says CCTV cameras at the scene showed them chasing, attacking, and stabbing the deceased on his front and upper left-hand side of his chest.

“Alex Smith was pronounced dead by the emergency services at the fatal scene,” The ODPP said in a statement.

The two then fled the UK and gained entry to Kenya on visitor’s visas which they had never renewed after expiry, meaning the fugitives were in Kenya illegally.

“The DPP requested the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Interior to issue the requisite order directing the two fugitives whose presence in Kenya is unlawful to be removed from the Republic of Kenya to the United Kingdom to face criminal charges against in the United Kingdom,” the statement adds.

ODPP’s International Cooperation, Extradition, and Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) Division coordinated the whole process of identification, arrest, and handing over of the suspects.

The two were arrested in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, where they have been hiding since sneaking into the country in 2019. Abdihakim was smoked out of his hideout at AL-DAR apartments while his accomplice was picked from house number A803 in Mideya Gardens.
