Kenya MPs Seek Sh11.7 Billion for Free Luxury Cars and Send-Off Packages for Their Aides

Kenyan Members of Parliament have petitioned the Treasury to set aside an additional Sh11.7 billion for free cars among other expenditures.

As per Business Daily, Parliament’s Budget and Appropriations Committee is seeking Sh4.2 billion car grant for MPs who will be elected in the forthcoming elections, a Sh500 million top-up on their current subsidized mortgage of Sh20 million each, and Sh373 million for medical bills for MPs who will unsuccessfully defend their seats in the August 9th elections.

The MPs also want their aides including personal assistants, drivers, and office secretaries allocated a Sh6.67 billion send-off package.

“The Parliamentary Service Commission submitted to the Budget and Appropriation Committee expenditure requirements amounting to Sh65.71 billion. This translates to a Sh27.23 billion deviation from the resource ceiling of Sh38.476 billion presented by the National Treasury,” committee chairperson Kanini Kega says in a report as quoted by Business Daily.

He adds: “The committee observed that the additional requests include one-off expenditures amounting to Sh11.7 billion which are unavoidable under the current circumstances given the lapsing of the 12th Parliament.”

MPs who serve for more than two consecutive terms are entitled to a Sh125,000 monthly pension for the rest of their lives while those who only serve a single term get three times their monthly pension payment with a 15 percent interest.

@ GG with all these jobs lost and lives shattered by attrition cause by the prolonged pandemic...Never seen such merciless thieves.
But how did we elect them? Are they the best we got? If so how will the worst treat the masses?

I’m glad to be living in America. This kinda fuckery would never be entertained in this country. As much as I hate paying taxes, I know and see how it’s spend. Mitch McConnell would never demand a send off package for the senate.
I feel bad for Kenyans. These are the officials they elect. 11.7 billion shillings could eradicate poverty for a lot of Kenyans. I’m not even appalled at what they asking for. They should get it and more.

@ Go crypto, there you go. I dont know how long you have been on Mwakilishi, but I have suggested this in the past. Just because its not happening anywhere, does not mean we cannot do it. If we have pro bono lawyers why cann't we have probono politicians,or MPigs?Infact that would separate the true public servants from the thieves...
Yes why not? Think of how much we can save.
Now please dont start saying why stop at politicians ? Go all the way to teachers,doctors...ect. Well when did you see teachers,or doctors grouping together and setting their salary scales? Can you imagine Mpigs are doing all these increases without a union?...

Thirteen million Kenyans are facing hunger due to corruption by this small percentage of greedy monsters.Food and medicine are luxuries to 70% of Kenyans.I wish hungry billionaire Kenyans hired the infamous ODM military wing,AL SHABAAB to tame these gangsters.

Seriously? This really makes me angry especially when you hear of medication shortages in hospitals, schools that still have outdoors pit toilets na hali kadharika. I hope Uhuru will not consent.

Why would we pay these people all this money and yet, did nothing to elevate Wanjikū’s standard of living. I don’t know how these people sleep at night. No shame.

Wow, it's shameful how our MPs want a 125k pension, morgages, entertainment and stuff, while Teachers & Health-workers are always on strike after a strike for lack of good wages.

Seriously? No wonder every self-deeming 'celebrity' wants to be a politician nowadays....idiotic perks that steal taxpayers money to load their pockets for life. Why even work? Why buy life insurance? Just be a Kenyan politician. May they NEVER know peace, may they NEVER know good health, may they die in misery!!!

I BELIEVE that these politicians deserve every penny they can scoop from the government coffers.
We have to UNDERSTAND that politics in KENYA are just another business venture.
They heavily invested DURING campaign period,
Weren't KENYANS bribed?
How many can say that MONEY wasn't given?
So, with all due respect to my fellow Comrades, let them reap where they sowed.

We can manage them and our country if we come together and speak with one voice, but we are too much compromised. We are reaping the fruits of our labor. We complain about their behaviors, yet we re-vote them back into the same house.

These thieves have no shame at all! No wonder they all want to plug into politics to steal from commoners! What a shame!

Yes. Give them. As long as it's available give it to them. Give them double. No more reasoning. Kenya does not need them. Let them take it and their families.
What Kenya needs is to go back to who we are. Respect for the creator and respect of God's law.
Soon all these hoarding and accumulation of stolen wealth will be useless?
What is the purpose of gaining the whole world and loose your soul.
How much land does a man need ( By Tolstoy) Only enough for his funeral. And soon as our people choose to be burned, they will need none.
Let the MPig's go for it.
Kenya cannot be destroyed, not by greed, corruption, foreign invasion or anything of the sort. It's God's country.

What about the poor common people who voted for the leaders and continue to live in poverty. God have mercy. Nonetheless, naked we come to this earth and naked we leave the world. God is fair as we all thirst, hunger, breath the same oxygen that the poor and rich fart in it.
