South Africa President Ramaphosa Among Foreign Leaders to Attend Kibaki's Funeral

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa is among foreign leaders who are expected to attend the State funeral of the late former president Mwai Kibaki.

The State funeral will be held on Friday at Nyayo National Stadium where Kibaki will be accorded full military honors, including a 19-gun salute.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir, his Ethiopia counterpart Sahle-Work Zewde and former Malawi President Joyce Banda will also attend the ceremony, according to a list provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Others include Rwanda Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente, Zimbabwe’s Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Tanzania’s Vice-President Philip Mpango, Uganda’s Vice-President Jessica Alupo, Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, and Sri Lanka’s Special Envoy Jayathma Wickramanayake.

Kibaki, who served as Kenya’s third president between 2002 and 2013, died on Friday at the age of 90.

The former president will be laid to rest on Saturday at his home in Othaya, Nyeri County.

He leaves behind four children; Judy Wanjiku, Jimmy Kibaki, David Kagai, and Tony Githinji.

I find it odd that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa will skip the funeral and instead be represented by his VP. You all know they always die in twos and last I heard is that Kaguta has not been seen in public since March 2022.
